Unhappy rust repairs

So i removed the gay chrome on my prelude and was in for a very nasty surprise. Obviously its too late now in terms getting rid of the car but my question is: can this be fixed, somehow, someway, besides going to a body shop.

do it right the first time, get it fixed. they have to cut out the rusted quarter and weld a new panel back on,.. best thing to do it to find a wrecked prelude with good rear quarters, cut them out and get the bodyshop to weld in the donor pieces...
My car is in the same situation as yours and when I get it fixed it will get fixed right... right now it's bubbling everywhere on the passenger side... the driver's side isn't really that bad though...

if you just cut out the rusted areas and patch it, it will definetly come back. To do it right, you have to cut like 5inches of quarter panel out and weld the donor pieces in all the way from where it meets your bumper to where it meets the sideskirt on the other end. If you weld high enough crap can't get stuck and rust out again, it will be like a new car. I've talked to a reputable bodyman and this is exactly what he told me. A friend of mine had the same problem as you and I on his 97 prelude and he just went to get it patched. The rust came back within 6 months. He got it fixed 3 times after that and the he sold the car, it's probably rusted to shit again... If you don't want any hassles in the future, fork out the cash now and do it... once you get it done spray the inside of your fenders with oil so rust doesn't have a chance...

it looks like it's been gone over with glass in those pics.sand it down to the bare metal. get ALL of the rust out, be thorough, outside and inside the fender. get a base patch welded in (have a shop shape a piece of metal close to the fender, and have it tacked in on the inside of the fender), then fill in the spaces with bondo. i recommend dynatron's Dyna-Delite Gold, it's available at ricerzone for about 20 bucks a gallon. lightweight and super easy to work with. doing this won't take much more than your time and patience. you're probably looking at 100-150 plus paint.

Have them weld in a base patch, or get some widebody fenders

don't do this..... you need to physically cut out the fender,.. doing this will cover it up for awhile then it will be a mess with the bondo and all

don't even waste your money, the only thing I would do is paint your chrome trims to match the body colour and put them back on to hide the mess...

just grind it down to bare metal. this could mean taking out a chunk if it's solid rust, but in the end you can just weld in a patch and bondo it, and if you're good with a sanding block, you can have it looking like new without breaking the bank.

werd, it will be way easier to work with prelude parts since no metal fabrication will be needed... I'm pretty sure you can find some for cheap. Go to a junkyard, most cars are wrecked from the front and the rear quarters are untouched...

Well they make a replacement QP think thats a sheet of metal that is already pre bent for the car, you cut out the whole thing, then just weld in the new QP and then if needed which it shouldnt fill in to body shape and then prime and paint. Simple Process.

Don't bother with halfass patches. Either do it right, or dump the car.

Tacking in metal and filling over it will only crack in the future. I spent big $$ to have a bodyshop do my datsun 240z and those clowns tacked and fillered. 4 years later and I had to go back and redo the whole damn thing. It cracked.

no easy way. you can pay 1000 plus for a cut and weld. or spend 2 days to fiberglass one side and about 50$ worth of bondo glass, fiber cloth, sandpaper and mixing tools. this wont even include paint and primer.so 100$ a side easily.

right now it's on hold cause it's raining. I will be finishing up the bottom part, sandindg that down then using filler to fill small holes and nicks before a final sand and paint. should be done one side before the weekend.
