Replacing Bulb Under Shift Lever? (98/99 Autos)
The bulb just went out on my shifter and I was wondering how involved it is to get at for anyone that has had to replace it.
For you 98/99 auto's, do you just take off the shift knob, pry the chrome ring up, unscrew the shift plate....and there it is?
It's bulb #1 I need to replace in the diagram
Thanks

Start at the rear of the center console and work your way forward....
-Two screws at the sides of the center console. Next to the seat-belt button. One on each side. Remove them.
-Open the center console storage. Pull out the felty plastic tray. Two screws at the bottom. Remove them.
-Open your cup holder. Pull out the double cup tray. Two screws. One in the middle. One toward the front of the hole. Remove them.
-Pull the rear part of the center console staright back. It will unclip from the front piece.
-There are now two screws exposed holding down the wood trim. Remove them.
-Pull up the crome ring around the shifter. (Carefully) It will click several times as you pull up on it.
-Two screws on each side of the shift knob. Holding the button in, remove the screws.
-Holding the button in, pull the knob up, slowly.
-With your fingers pull the flat part of the wood panel up. Once ot unclips, pull the dash part of the wood panel toward the rear.
-If you have heated seats you will need to carefully unplug the buttons before you go any further.
-Once you unplug the others (defrost, 4 way flash, fogs, etc) Remove the wood panel completely.
There's the bulb!!
Auto parts stores carry that bulb. They don't carry the tinted condom that goes over it. Transfer the tinted rubber. Be careful doing it.
Remember to plug all the shit back in when you put it back togehter.
Good Luck man!!
