rear main seal?

rear main seal?

anybody know where this oil is coming from??

took a few pix









somebody took a look today and said it might be the "rear main seal" thats causing my latest oil leak...

any ideas??

thanx again all
p.s..i did put in some white shepard rear main seal leak stuff earlier...hopefully will chill the issue out for awhile

Would love to help but can't tell from the pics. My j30 is always wet with oil underneath but never enough to hit the ground. I changed my distributer o-ring and that helped a bit as it was leaking oil a bit. Rear main seal is major work, I do know that lol!

i had my dist cap replaced yesterday and a few other lil knick knacks..
what he said was that white shepard stuff might help cause its not the parts to fix the rear main seal thats xpensive its the labor cause its a pain in the ass to do, gotta take out tranny etc...
so far today just a few drops of oil were on the ground vs alot this past week...mayb its working..still havent driven it around long enuff to really get into system..
will report back if the dripping stops completly

Yeah, replacing that seal would suck labor wise, hope what u did helps

Look up above/around the oil filter. If the 2.3 is like the 2.2, there should be a single wire going into the oil pressure sender switch. Takes a 24mm deep socket, see if that thing is soaked (don't need to remove it to check). The plastic/seals fail on them over time and they leak all over the back of the motor and make a hell of a mess. Can't tell if the pictures are looking at the front or back of the motor from the bottom.

that pic was taken from the front end...

btw...after putting in that white shepard stuff theres way less oil drops on floor now..almost nothing...this stuff might actually work..
will report back this week with more driving to see

i cant tell by the picture but could it be your oil pan ?

ill bring it up when mechanic pops over to boost my a/c a bit
