rear deck rattling easy fix
sup all... after serching this entire forum on how to fix the rattling. ive come across people saying to do/check
- dynamat the deck and trunk
- speaker grill
- 3rd break lamp
the rattling wasnt the grills, or 3rd brake lamp for me.
so after trying to get the damn rear deck off i gave up trying to take it off.
then i sat in the back and turned up my sub to pin point the rattling. with the 3rd brake off i could stick my hand down the hole to feel around to try to locate the rattling. and eureka. it was the 2 trunk rods rubbing against the deck.
so to fix this just take a 1 foot pry rod or whatever you have, there is a big square hole where you disconnect the 3rd brake lamp and a where the rods criss cross and are held in by a plastic clip. just shove the rod in and pry the metal down towards the floor, 1/2 inch should do. this is from the trunk of course. this will give the bars the clearance they need.
hope this helps somebody.

I was always thinking about bending those, I definately pinpointed them too as part of my rattle. I was always scared to bend them, since they're the lifts for the trunk, but you're saying to bend them like 1/2" that's not too bad. Does your trunk pop up any differently?

I had a simpler fix, I just took the trunk bars out. Helped make room for 6x9s with huge magnets. Makes the trunk a lot harder to open, especially with several layers of dynamat. Hate to say the trunk still rattles though...

yeah the bars dont like to bend without a fight.... you dont need to try to bend the bars,
instead just bend the metal under body of the deck that the grey clip is fixed to, youll see what i mean. Its grey and golf ball sized and holds the 2 rods right under the 3rd brake lamp. i used a long wrench and just pried it down a 1/2 an inch

good deal man, did this today, i just pryed the plastic clip with the bars in it out of the hole and put a 1inch thick piece of foam in there. trunk still opens and closes regularly. fixed what was rattling in there!

well i just spent the last few hours doing this. first i taped everything up, i tried everyhting, tape, stuffing towels inbetween the deck/bars, etc. and it still rattled. Then i took the clip out (broke it actually) and then bent the bars, still rattling. Then i just said fuck it cut the two bars off just to know if it was really that or not. and it STILL rattles. so now im stuck with the rattling and a heavy ass trunk.
oh well, i just had to cut the bars to know for myself time to order new ones

oh, guess i shoulda said that it gets rid of the interior rear deck rattle. As for that the only fix is dynamat. but that stuff is hella pricey. On my old car i went to the local hardware store, Revy, and got a couple of rolls of roofing isulator tape, which looks identical to dynamat. it was just thinner. the rolls were 10" by 10' something. i forget what its called but i think its 3 letters and blue packaging. worked with only one layer too. did the whole bottom including the spare tire pocket. left it out and filled it with insulation. the trunk lid is a must, id do the lid first, you may not have to do the whole trunk. it had no rattles at all from the outside or in.

Damn why didn't I see this post before? I have the same problem and I always thought it was the speaker grills. I'm gonna try this out with insulation first. Bendin it would be my last resort.
Thanks for the info
