re: 60k mile help...ASAP
Can someone please tell me the truth about our timing belts. I have a 97 CL 3.0 with 64k...when should I change it. One mechanic told me 90k, another told me every seven years (which I have approached), and another told me at 60k. I know what can happen if the TB goes, but when should I change it....help. thanks.

thanks. But what do you think the chances are that I need to get it done at 64k, rather than at 79K. I'm probally going to get rid of the car next year, so I would rather not pay for it.

it really depends on how much you are gonna drive your car before you sell it. Most people reccomend to get it done around 90K, so if you are planning on selling it before that, dont waste your time/money fooling with it

You peeps need to read the frickin' manual lol. I think it says:
Harsh driving: 60K miles
Normal driving: 90K 2.2/2.3 and 105K 3.0
I'm too lazy to go out and look.

wow, are u fuckin serious? 800 bucks for a timing belt. im glad i have a friend that works in a shop, i cant even imagine shelling out that much money for the belt work. another question,, for those who went out and bought the parts themselves, whats the usual price for a timing belt, water pump and tensioners? ebay has an oem honda set with all that for 90 bucks. is this a good price?

yea thats a pretty good deal for 90 bucks on most online part stores the Water Pump is around 95 dollars alone plus 40 for the Belt and then the tensioner for 70, but then again thats all retail price. if the stuff is good quality go for the set on ebay.

Yea remember guys you NEED to replace the water pump when you have the timing belt changed.
Also, depending on when you have it done, it may also be time for spark plugs/wires. Pesky fuel filter needs changing often too. Shit, you almost need a whole new car.
