Questions about alternators
Ok... I have come to the conclusion that the alternator has to go.. i have questions for anyone who can help about a few things:
PRICE-- i keep seeing prices that are much lower than what I am being quoted.. where is the best price from someone who'll send me agood part FAST?
105 or 180-- I have no plans for a huge system in the car, or for racing.. do I need the 180amp, or can I just stick with 105?
INSTALLATION-- can anyone give me a quick overview?? I know to take off the radiator shroud, but what about the fan on that side? does it have to go? it looks pretty tight in there. Also, what is all this about 4 gauge wire... do I have to change wiring, or is that for moving up to 180??
TRICKS?--- are there any other tricks or things I need to know before doing this??
ANYONE THAT CAN HELP>> I AM IN A BAD JAM
Thanks

Still trolling
Replacing the alternator is the easiest belted component to replace on a car....no fluids!!!! ![Smile](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
As far as the amperage, that depends. The alternator that is in there, was designed to support the car in it's current form, with some headway for add on draws from accessories. Depending on the amperage draw on the amplifiers you are getting, that will help determine your increase, if any.
I would stick with the 105, you should be fine. Most amps only draw 25-40 AMPS at full draw. Since amplifiers average (RMS) lower amperage draws, you should only see 15-25 amp draw, with peaks here in there at the higher amperages, which the 105 should handle ok.
I can't comment on the removal, as my car is under warranty, and that's not my problem![Smile](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Should be simple enough though. Do you have a 2.2 or 3.0 ?
