Probably A Last Post for A While: RIP CL

Last night while I was driving home on the Garden State Parkway, I was driving too fast and the ground must have been much damper than I assumed. While following a curve, the rear of the car got loose and I started going sideways out of control. When I was able to get up and out of the car, the rear and drivers windows were shattered, airbags had deployed, and the entire body was destroyed. Was taken to a hospital and was just treated for a laceration on my head. I am fine now but I am completely unsure of what will happen now since I overheard my dad telling my mom he will refuse to have me on their insurance anymore. I suppose this will be one of my last posts for a while here on AZine, but I will continue to lurk. Thanks to everyone for helping me get my CL to how it was. RIP to my '99 3.0

you must have hit something really slick in the road for the rear to get sideways on a front wheel drive car, or going way to fast or both. What did you hit, you just said it got out of control but left off the part about what shattered the windows and deployed the air bags, something had to be hit to cause this damage instead of just loosing control. Sorry to hear about your car but at least you are ok, and thats really all that matters in the big picture of things

Probably spun into the median, I had the same thing happen to me in the rain when I had bald rear tires on my 1st CL. Sorry to hear about the accident, glad you came out ok though. Life>Car.

That is what I believe I hit. The road was damper that I had thought and through the curve at the speed I was going sent the rear sliding and I must have hit the median and something else. Once I felt the car going sideways, I think I blacked out from the panic and bracing myself for whatever impacts.

Sorry to hear, my buddy did almost the exact same thing in his Monte Carlo, was just driving too fast on wet/slick roads. Glad to hear you are OK, cars can be replaced, people cannot. Good luck with your family/insurance situation, keep us posted.

Here are some pics my dad took of the car today at the lot it's at. I'm pretty much in awe I was pretty much able to just walk out.

There appears to be a dent. Good thing you lived to tell about it, learned your lesson I hope. Whenever it rains or it is damp I have that voice in the back of my head telling me to keep it at or under the speed limit.

glad you're alright
accidents happen, we learn from them, sucks when parents or people don't realize that
i've had the rear end of the cl loose on only one occasion when it was icey out with winter tires that were balding in the rear, and this was on a straight stretch of road... and i also totalled my first car into a curb when it went sideways at about 50mph, so i know that shit is pretty scary.
good luck with your situation

are you going to part out the usable parts or are you just going to let the insurance company or tow yard just keep it? There are quite a few parts still usable like the interior and stuff and would help fund another vehicle if this is an option for you.

Insurance is going to the yard tomorrow I believe so I guess I will have to go from there. KBB was $5k, but I have no idea what I'll get. Hopefully I can find a decent 2G CL or TL. But I'd be scared shitless about the trans so I got some serious thinking to do

I guess for now I'll be shopping for what to get next. This was my first claim in a year so I'm not sure how rates will be, depending even if I am still allowed to be on my parents' policy. As of now, I have my eye on an Accord I saw online. 2006 EX-L 4 cylinder coupe w/ 63k miles. I'm set on Honda now since that CL really kept me OK through everything. Just wondering, is there a big difference between insuring a coupe and a sedan? As of now I'm staying away from a V6, hopefully a i4 helps insurance cost

My 04 TL 6spd 4dr costs just a few more dollars a month vs the same coverage I had on the 97 2.2 CL 5mt. I didn't look at any "newer" 2dr cars, so I don't have any other rates to compare it to. I don't think the difference is much to worry about unless you already pinch pennies as it is.

The CL was costing me $1100 a year to have insured under my parents' plan. But all I keep hearing from everyone around me is that the rate is gonna go sky high after my claim is processed from this accident. I'd love a 3G TL, but for the price of the 2006 (Tafetta White) Accord (Coupe EX-L) I'm lusting over right now, the TLs have so many miles that I'd be scared of something breaking. Regardless of how bulletproof I know Acuras/ Hondas are.

I'm not sure what part it is, but if I go to see the car one last time I'll try to find what you need. That, and I want my floormats since they were $100 from WeatherTech

Yeah I use to work for a car insurance company. The tow yards are douches. They do try to jack whatever they can out of them that is of value. Especially in a total loss situation.
Glad you were able to walk away from that lil fender bender.

About Exit 161 just going over Route 4. I took pictures when I got out and my iPhone geotagged where it was. Will try to upload a screenshot later on.

As it now turns out, my mom says there was so collision insurance on the car. So I'm pretty much stuck with a few thousand that I have for life savings, yet I really would like to stay away from it . I guess I will have to find a place to put the car so I can go get parts out of it to salvage and try to support another car

Well, it has rained this week, and now it is absolutely pouring outside. With three windows missing, the interior is probably completely ruined so sorry to anyone that wanted something from there. I would like to take the wheels off and get the engine to sell off, but I don't think my dad would care to go through the trouble of dealing with the dick yard manager, or care about my cars at all from now on. So tomorrow I have to go with my mom to drop off the title and registration, and be gone of my CL

Well, all is done now. Ownership was transferred to the yard, and I don't even wanna think about what is going to happen next =(. Before I left, I took one last picture. She died with only a little more than 70k on the clock. IMO, way too soon.
