Part of the Big Problem solved, but small problem remains

I mistakenly allowed my father to take the car to "his" mechanic for an estimate on repairing the A/C compressor, tensioner, and alternator belt (my estimate was $1,200-see "Big Problem" post). We'll this clown decided to go ahead and do the repairs for $400 without permission! However, he "capped" the A/C compressor and said it will cost another $200+tax to replace the receiver/drier,flush the condensor, vacuum the system, add the required lubricant and charge it.

So, aside from this joker's unethical methods, what did he do by "capping" my A/C compressor and can I do the rest of the work to fix it myself?

I remember your post........I would not pay him and penny and get your car back.......and look for new tensioner it is easy if just replaced the tensioner then thats what you pay for...PERIOD....and I guess thats what he did and thats why he fixed it without permission as he sensed you getting smarter by the minute and now he is pulling some thing else out of his ass for $200.....fuck em....take your car back and make a big scene......if you did not authorize it then you dont pay it......if you wanna save your money you will have to earn it....creat a rucksss.....it always works......find out how much the belt tensioner&belt cost and then assume half hour of labor thats what you pay for.....
