yes it is supposed to work. in order for the trunk to "open" you need to hold the trunk release button for a second or two. i believe it is a safety feature or such.

Of course its suppose to work. What the hell else would it be their for...decoration?
Hold it for 2 or 3 seconds and the trunk should pop up.
