Not enough inertia?

Hey guys, I have been using your search button for a long time, its no google, but it works okay.

I couldn't find info in reguards to the question: Will the engine stall on a 8 pound flywheel when the ac kicks on, the cooling fans kick on, etc..? Anyway my car jutters at idle when anything kicks on, the power windows even. The rpms go from 500 to 400 and barely hold. With the reduced kinetic engery due the smaller mass I figured the engine might not respond quick enough when something asks for more power and just die. Am I wrong or is the concern justified? I am under the assumption that the flywheel keeps the engine going due to its large rotational mass.

I am going to need a new clutch/pp soon here and I was thinking about grabbing a lightened flywheel. Ebays got some nice deals on exedy OE clutches and fidanza flywheels (8pound) and I would have a shop install them.

Thanks.

hmm.. not familiar with this, but I did ask about the difference between a lighter/heavier flywheel in another thread not too long ago that was answered.

You may have to bump your idle up a few hundred rpm. I ran a 8lb flywheel before and the car would like to stall out after reving the motor past 5k since the rpm was dropping so fast. You'd have to blip the throttle once the needle got below 2500 to keep it running. Once I moved the idle up a little, it stopped.

This was on my B18C, but I'd imagine the same results with an F series. I have a 12lb flywheel now and it doesn't rev as fast as the 8 pounder, but it rarely ever stalls out.

Thanks a lot Blazin Si. That is exactly what I figured would happen. Should I just start searching again for how to raise your idle?

Been wanting to do that anyway, I am sick of the juttering at stop lights.

Thanks man, I think I actually found that one. I will go and read it again just to be sure though. This thread is pretty much done unless someone wants to post a picture of the idle control screw so I can find it. If anyone has stalling issues with lightweight flywheels, those stories are cool too.
