Sounds like your throttle position sensor (TPS)

Do you feel any slippage in the tranny? shouldn't be a tranny issue, usually unnatural reving is caused by the TPS but just wanna be sure

Fast Foward>Rewind>Play
does it rev up and down? like over and over? if so its the tps.
if its like a normal automatic transmission and depending how fast you stop from a higher speed. itll rev up a little than down to down shift.

OK, what about loose throttle cable?
I still blame the TPS for being on it's way out, they're notorious for going bad on our cars.

where is....
it could still be the tps, but i think it would effect him alot more, im leaning torwards orlando3.0 because auto tranny waits til 2nd gear gets really low in rpm before it shifts down into first.
