Noisey Intake ~ Any Suggestions?
I put on a cold air intake on my dad's 3.0, and I had a problem with the thing giving off a high pitched whistle at around 3000 rpms. It's a misserable sound, and I would have liked to keep the intake on, but the fact is that the sound was too hard to get used to. The sound is defintly just the sound of tons of air getting sucked into the engine, but I was wondering if anyone did something to stop the noise. I was thinking about Putting something on the inside of the intake piping so restrict the air flow a bit, but then i didn't want anything getting sucked into the throttlebody. I was thinking, maybe putting some dynamat on the inside of it. If anyone has found a way to get rid of the problem, let me know, I would love to put the intake back on. Until then, it's waaay to noisey for a 45 year old man on his way to work that just wants some extra HP.
Please Post Suggestions. Thanks

It's normal. Welcome to the world of high-pitched-noisy-sounding CAIs! ![Smile](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
I got used to it after a week or so. Now, I occasionally notice it, but only if someone else mentions it. I can deal with the noise for the extra power!![Thumbs Up](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)
BTW: I'm 36, and people just get out of my way, when I'm going to work!

DO NOT PUT ANYTHING IN THE INTAKE TUBE!!!!!!! Like you mentioned, you do not want any type of foreign object getting sucked into the throttle body. Is it a generic intake or a brand name? You may want to try a different filter cone.

I have noticed there are certain cone filters that wont make as much noise, ACP had a plain jane cone filter that it pretty quite on our cars, just a thought if you didnt want the sound, I personally like it but..

is it normal for the engine to make a sound too? Cause when i had my hood up I heard two new sounds, one from the intake and one from the engine. Also does an intake void the warranty?

Your intake won't void the warranty. You'll hear a consistent sucking of air, plus once your moving, you'll hear a whining noise at time. Once you hit VTEC, you'll hear a grumbling roar!!!

blah blah blah
that sound is normal. I fingured out a way, so that i won't be able to hear it. ANd that is, turning up my system and bumpin it.
and that fixes everything, from that high pitch sound to road noise.

Is there a way to stop noobs from doing stupid shit like this?
On a side note: 3.0 + AEM CAI = no whistle for me.
I've installed 3 different CAIs on CLs including a CL-S and all come out perfect. No humming, no whistling.

Thats the thing...I dunno. But I've done more than a few intake installs. Everything from our CLs to 1.8Ts. Cold air and Short ram. Never had one whistle on me before. I did hear "Perfecto's" (?) short ram at a meet and it hummed like a mother fucker. Mine was nothing like that at all.
Dunno what I did differently. Then again...My car's shift point is at 6800 to 7000. So maybe my car is different?
