Nitrous?

Anyone out there have nitrous on there 3.0L?
I'm thinking about getting some.
Let me know what you think.
I've got a CAI, Headers, and a throttle boddy spacer.
And yes the TBS does sound like I have a fake turbo!

I have the Helix. I can feel the difference in high rpm range.
Not a Noob though.
Searched and no one had any details. Just that they had it.
Thanks!

Do you know personally?
I'm trying to think of other ways to make it faster.
I'm going to get a custom exhaust and muffler but
wanted something else that wasn't a turbo or s-charger.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Swap a type S head onto it, get bigger injectors, pullies, and a few other bolt ons. n20 will def make your tranny go quick, while you're at it put a comptech tranny cooler on it

I drive a 99 3.0 (auto).
Can you swap the head for a type S?
How much is involved in doing so?
How much $$$$?
What would be the other bolt ons?
Thanks!

Man, seriously all you 2.x people need to drop the input about 3.0 trannies, mine lasted 3 years of hard driving before I had it rebuilt, and it's been fine for almost another 2, spraying however will def hurt the tranny over extended use

How much was the Tranny Rebuild?
I was quoted $2K.
I know my tranny is going out but it still pulls hard when I want it too.
I ran a 10.34 1/8 @ 70mph.
I just need to let it warm up for about 10-15mins and there are no problems.
Just wanted some opinions on NOS or not.
Thanks guys!

It's up to you. Fuck what anyone else thinks.

The J30A1 can handle up to a 125 shot with only changing to cold plugs, and race gas. You can go with a 75 shot without changing anything (but you should have 91-93 octane in there). This is a 9.6:1 CR engine, so it can handle the beating. No need for adjusting timing, as the ECU will retard itself. That's about right for a tranny rebuild. I got mine done for $17xx.

Thanks for being cool man.
Did you put an beating on the tranny before or after the N2o or both?
I was only going to use a 55 at the most. You say 75 is okay though.
I'm not looking to build a race car, just have some fun with the gas.
I'm going to get custom exhaust next with a 2.5'' pipe and magnaflow muffler.
http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/s...ne=main&id=761
to complete the I/H/E. What do you think of UR Pullies? I've heard good and bad.
I was told to only get two of the three. Thanks again!

Sorry but what do you mean cold plugs?
I just bought some Nology silvers. I want to get the Hotwires too.
Thanks!

Cold plugs is just a style that can support boost and nitrous, I use NGK Iridium IX but there are several other brands that work as well

Plugs with a heat range of 7 or higher are you typical cold plugs. It's usually the first number that shows up on the spark plugs item number.

Ex: ZFR7xxxx

It says that they are heat range 6-8.
I guess these are cold plugs.
What do you think about Hotwires?
I'm going to get the exhaust first and then maybe the Hotwires.
Thanks!

Talking

Hey Cocoa, I didn't realize you were from DFW.
I was going to take my car to Jotech to have them install my headers but they wanted too much. They wanted 350 and I got it done at Redline in Arlington for 220. My good friend's brother works there on Wedsdays. His name is Carlos.
Where do you call home? I live in Arlington.

You should have told me. In SoCal, the going rate to install headers is a 12 pack of Imported beer. I would have helped you done it. I live in Southlake off the 114. As for the plugs, they really should be one range only. Let me give you an example of one extreme to the next. The heat range plugs for the 2nd gen 10.6:1 CR engine is 6. The heat range for the plugs on an Evo is 8, with a CR of 8:1. I've never heard of a plug that ranges from 6-8, or 5-7, or 7-9. But if they exist, I've never seen them before. I would recommend NGK's or Denso.

Cool man, Southlake is a nice place.
My girl and I go out there every once in a while so she can go shopping.

I'm just going by what the website said.
I put in my application and it gave me that set of ranges.
I bought them from the Nology Website.
Do you ever go out to Kennedale Raceway.
It's only an 1/8 mile though.
I'm going to go out there again this Thursday (9/20) for the Street Legal Shootout.
I think you win like $50 if you are the fastest in your bracket.
Just to run it again.

okay i know im reviving an old thread now but i too was looking into doing the nitrous thing in the cl. i figured since im getting the economic stim check soon i figure id put that into something cool for the engine (since i already have money set aside for suspension).

no my question is...so cocoa, you ran nitrous in your car for a year before you had to rebuild the tranny? im sorry if im reading wrong. im fully aware of needing the tranny cooler and stuff like that. and like stonemalone here, im not trying to built a race car..just wanted to have the option of nitrous when i needed it...

im thinking of the zex dry shot maybe 55-75 shot....not sure. i was talking to an old member of this forum at a party this weekend and he said that all i would need is a tranny cooler (and a new tranny on the side. haha)...

With a 75 shot, you won't even need to change to cold plugs, nor use race gas (but pure 91 is a must).

Your tranny will burn out faster if you go power braking everywhere you go. Be sure to throw in some redline atf and that tranny cooler.

well the guy that i was talking to said that a 75 shot would maybe run me about 800...is that correct?

but if i do everything correctly...redline atf regularly, tranny cooler, not flooring it so much, what do you think the life expectancy of my tranny would be? i mean its hard to tell i suppose but im sure youd have an average.

A new Zex wet kit ran me about $575 for a 75-125 shot. (I installed it myself)

As to how long your tranny will last, I have no idea. That all depends on how well taken care of it was prior as well.

anyway...well as i read more and more into the CONS of nitrous its starting to scare me off. hahah. but its just a good option to have..

i saw a guy on here that had a supercharger but im sure that a supercharger would eat up my pockets (not to mention its probably more expensive that the car itself at this point). i guess engine work dont come with a friendly price

N2O is definately poor man's F/I. . . but it works and with little or no ill effect if you spray responsibly and take care of the car, same as you would if you boosted it though

well ive already got like 183k on my car from all the drives to so cal. but i dont feel that my tranny is going yet. i think it still feels good to me.

as far as the decision with nitrous, i think the thing thats keeping me at bay instead of taking my chances is the fact that all there is for me to get is a tranny cooler to protect my car from blowing. hahah. theres gotta be other stuff i can do.

i was talking to my gf about this and shes all "how would you take it if your car were to die because of nitrous"...honestly i think i would cry...
