Need help with potential CL purchase.

Hey, Cl noob looking for some help with a potential purchase.

Just had by car stolen last month and have been looking for a new car. Previous car was a civic but am now looking for something comfy yet still good on gas for long HW commutes. 97-99 2.2-2.3 Cl seems to be the car that fits my requiremtents well without being a huge theift magnet compared to other hondas and acuras.

I'm currently looking at two Cl's at the moment. One is a 99 2.3 with an auto and 97k miles and the other is a 98 2.3 with manual and 103k miles.

Is there anything i should look for when going to look at these cars besides the obvious like cv boots, paint overspray, misaligned body panels, odd engine noises/leaks. Anything specific to these models that are known to go bad?

Any suggestions or tips on problem areas to look at is greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Go with the 5 speed instead of the automatic. The automatic trannies have been known to have problems and it's not exactly a cheap fix. If you do decide to get an automatic, go with the 3.0. Any 2.x CL with an automatic tranny is painfully slow.

I say go with the manual. Dont go with an auto 3.0 either, trannys are awful but luckily im still on the first with 144k.

Thanks for the comments. I'm looking to stick with 4 cylinders and excellent reliability which is why I'm thinking about 2.3 cl's only. More interested in fuel economy then speed at this point, but don't want something super bland like a Accord or Camery. I leaning towards the manual car even though I'm sure that the 5 speed is just as painfully slow in the 2.3. I'm sure it would make the drive a bit more entertaining as well as allow me to squeeze out slightly better MPG.

Anything major i should be looking for when deciding?

if you're close to katana, his CL is pretty dope. If you're not, go with the 98 2.3 manual.
