Hey guys,
First offI have a 97 2.2CL w/51.5Kmiles and it is an automatic

I was driving around today and my RPMs would start shooting up in the middle of nowhere. Kinda like the same thing that happened when I would make a turn. Then when I was driving toniet, my RPMs starting jumping as I was just driving at a steady speed, followed by my check engine light coming on.

Does anyone have a guess as to what is causing this whole ordeal?

Well, to get your check engine light off disconnect your battery for like 5 min. and then it should stay off. but if it comes back on you might want to get it checked out. it usually isn't a big deal. that usually means you have a bad sensor or somethingl. but the RPM's sounds like your EGR valve. There was a recall on my 98 CL for that, you might wanna check with you local dealer.

Had exact same problem about a year back and it ended up being my O2 sensor was starting to crap out. Replaced it and everything was fine after that.

I was just going to say the oxygen sensor. Same thing happened to my old SAAB 9000 and it would just start revving up and down by itself.

How much did it cost you guys to get the sensor replaced? The guy is already charging $65 to hook it up to the computer and run a diagnostic program

Dude, go to AutoZone first, if you have one nearby... they will run a CEL check for free, in an effort to get you to buy the replacement O2 sensor from them.

And while I am here, how invloved is changing an O2 sensor in my 97 3.0 CL?? I have done it in other cars before, but those other cars had repair manuals available...lol.

And how much $$$

I'd also like to know how difficult it is to install the O2 sensor yourself. Anybody done it before?

just check it yourself:

there is a plug underneath the glove box. stick a wire to each side, and read the cel code on the check engline light on you dash.

yea it was the primary O2 sensor on my car that caused the same problem. Also i had a problem with the charcoal canister. Anyone know a cheap place to get a tranny for a 99 3.0 cl? Mine's crapped out

I had a transmission shop up here in Boston get one from some place in Atlanta with 45K miles on it for $900, used but not rebuilt. That was the cheapest I had seen though - most places want about $1500 for a used one (none of these prices include installation). But then again, that one is dying on me now after about 5000 miles. If you end up getting a used one somewhere just make sure that youget as much warranty on it as possible.

O2 sensor replacement = free @ dealership because of Honda's emission extension warranty.

i can confirm that one! just got my '97's o2 sensor replaced free of charge at the dealer.

acura is having customer appreciation week so they offered me a free 45-pt checkup. not sure if this is national. anyways, my check engine light recently came on so the free check-up came in at a good time.

i was very surprised that parts of my car are still under manufacturer warranty! anybody know what other extension warranties are available?
