Mildew smell from the A/C...

This has been bugging for quite sometime now. Everytime I turn the A/C on there's mildew/mold smell coming from the vents. Also when I turn it on shit flies up at me (i.e. little rocks leaves). I can understand the little particles of stuff getting in the vents but should they be full size small leaves? Anyone elses A/C smell?

That's quite a common problem, since most people do not use their air conditioner during the winter.

Here's my suggestion, turn on your A/C once every few weeks during the winter for 5-10 minutes. That should help avoid any nasty smells.

When people stop using their A/C during the winter, mildew and mold builds up during those cold months.

So sit back, blast the A/C, and let it air out.

damnit, i just realized that Dennis lives in Hawaii.

well, what i just suggested would apply to the folks who
live in areas with snow during the winters, or gets really cold.

as for Dennis, must be that nice island weather....
humidity?

I know this is a old thread bur I had the funky smell in the CL when I first got it, I pulled the vents out and blew out the ducts with air and dumped anti microbial cleaner with a hose and funnel shoved into the center ducts so it would wash the evaporator down,it drained out from under the car threw the hose. Then I bought some foaming AC duct cleaner came with a hose attached and I foamed all the vents and the evaporater again funky smell gone and clean.

When I had my CL, the evaporator box drain hose was clogged. I had to poke a zip tie up inside to clear it out. I also put the vents on full drawing in fresh air, then blasted lysol air freshener into the cowl intakes outside. Smelled nice.

I'm surprised no one said to check the cabin filter. But then again if I remember correctly, I don't think CLs have servicable cabin filters..
