Exclamation Metal crush washers...

OK, this is the second time I've backed out of the garage in the morning and found a couple of oil blots on the floor. The first time... I had a dealer oil change special. Had it done... a week later, I see these blots. I take the Mistress to my friend's shop... sure enough, the nylon crush washer was cracked and dripping from the pan... So my friend changes the oil. worked great. Well, this time my friend does the change and he was out of metal crush washers. He uses a nylon washer... well this morning, the same shit.. Only this one lasted about two weeks. More oil on my pan though. So... I gave my friend a metal washer and the shit is sealed up tight.

Moral... Don't use nylon crush washers... Don't let the dealer or your oil change spot use them... stick to the aluminum crush washers.

since i bought the car in aug 00 and sold in in nov 05 i never once changed the crush washer or had any leaks. i did however have an oil leak from my distributor shortly after i got it which was fixed under warrenty along with the balancer shaft seal. maybe its one of those. only if you have a 2.2 though.

What kind of oil filters you guys use, till reccently, I was getting the honda ones from the dealer, and they give you a new crush ring for your drain plug with each filter. But Honda just downsized our filters and standardized that we use the same one that goes on a civic!? I am buying the fullsized ones for my 3.0 from parts stores from now on, Honda just lost my $6-7 a month. I just dont' understand why theyd make you put a smaller filter on your car
