I got a 98 3.0Cl with almost like 90K miles on it. The Gm is really low, somewhere ard 220-250miles for a tank. lso, the engine smokes a lot, while idling as well as while accelerating. this happens when i start it in the morning as well as when i stop the car after driving for 5-6 blocks. another issue, after driving for a mile slow with gradual acceleration, smoke comes out of the muffler with the engine turned off. also, the temp stays below the mid-point no matter how hard i accelerate. it never reaches the mid-point. the inspection was done abt a mth ago and everything was normal. What is wrong with my car here and what should i do...help me

well the needle staying below half is normal for you car... the rest of the problems bring it to a mechanic t otake a look at it

The temperature needle is supposed to stay at the 1/4 mark and never ever really goes above that line. As far as the smoke, try getting the oil changed and check for any gasket that may be worn. Finally for the gas mileage, I think the problem at your mileage is the fuel filter that may need replacing. Replace the fuel filter, get some new spark plugs, and a new air filter, and maybe new spark plug wires and your car should be running in decent shape. Although, I also get around 250-270 a tank. Just depends on the car and how heavy your foot is.

also replace your PVC valve. people never really mention it.

either that or the egr valve. check and see if any recall work was done on the car. you can get that shit done for free.

The check engine light cam eron yesterday. went to get oilt and filter change and got the mechanic to run a diagnostic, he said the egr showed error. does a 1998 3.0cl qualify for the recall? if not, how much does it cost to get teh EGR replaced... He said, he will not touch the EGR nad dealership would eb teh best place to get it done...Help me...

98 3.0 is only covered for EGR for upto 80K miles.
It is not that hard to clean the EGR. Do a search you should be able to find how to.
