Looking at an H22 head
this kid i work with knows someone who is selling a H22 head for what he thinks is cheap. He told me that the guy wants it for $250. think this is a good deal? im gonna take a look at it on sunday. Is there anything i should be looking for when i take a look at the head, and also what other misc. parts will i need to do a H22 head swap.

i dont think thats a great deal..
is it a full head with throttle body, distributor, intake manifold etc etc..?
i know exactly what you need to do that head swap, it seems complicated but it really isnt

here's all that you need..
- complete head
- f23 headgasket
- Must remove one smaller copper fastener that holds the 3 layers together from the f23 headgasket
- h22 header
- bottom part of f22 waterpipe & top part of a h22 waterpipe (weld together)
- take the h22 waterpump gear and put it on the f22 waterpump
- h22 lower timing belt gear
- h22 timing belt
- h22 head studs
- and plug the two oil passages...
- Obd1 P13 or OBD 2 p13
if your really interested, go through this whole thread..its long and you might get confused alot of times but all your questions will be answered in there..or just pm me, i should be able to help you out

it really depends on where you get your parts from and how cheap you get them...but i dont see this costing more than $1000CDN ($800US + - )
i really like the gains on this..it would be nice to do just to shut everyone up that says:
a) it can't be done
b) not worth the time/money
c) just swap a full h22, easier/ cheaper

thats not alot of stuff to do...at all, i should just do it show you guys that it isn't hard at all..

I'd be worried about reliability of the engine, not the cost or difficulty of installation. The guy on H-T did this with the f22b2 block, but has it been done with the f22b1 that comes in our 2.2 CL's? The f22b2 he used doesn't have vtec, but our f22b1 does, which would certainly add some problems wouldn't it?

no problems caues of vtec. for starters the vtec is only in the head and is controlled by the Ecu and with bothin of those things beong changed there is no conflicting commands / acts coming from your ecu or managment system. you will have more problems with a turbo vtec motor then with a f22 with a h22 head on it.

suppostily, this is easier than doing a LS-VTEC. I've seen this done before and was thinking if i have a 2.x (thanks GOD i got a 3.0) i would do that instead of a full engine swap.

alright heres the deal, im checking the head out on sunday and im gonna question this guy to death. i wanna try and talk him down to 200. and those parts wont be a problem for me to get at all because i work at a Honda dealership, so ill be using brand new parts for the swap. im very excited about this, but if i buy the head i wont expect to be doing the work until summer.

i hate to say it but being that ive done a frankenstein g23 vtec. on a prelude it put down 186hp to the wheels. thats about 220chp. and seing that just the motor weighs bout 300lb less and puts down 10 more hp to the wheels. sorry 3.0's. tho i never got a chance to run with it. it would have been close. i hope..

theres alot of research you need to do before doin something like this. especially if you dont know what to look for on a head. no offense intended i promise. its worth it, but my friend put in about 1500$ on budget parts and good luck.

back to the topic it is a good deal tho.. as long as its not trashed.. you can take it to a machine shop and have the valves rematched and the head dipped and magnafluxed, and resurfaced for about 200$

idk it would still be alot of money and sometimes the parts dept. is :ghey: when it comes to ordering things, like they might tell me i would have to order the whole motor. ill inquire but i dont think it would be worth it. im just gonna use my discount to order the misc. parts that i need this swap to work.

the only thing is that if you get a shop to do it, you'll get , i say just grab some friends that know what their doin and make a weekend of it..

the g23 is a stroker h22. which is why its not safe to bring it past 7200rpm.. it can go more but not safley. unless you install the oil injection ports on the bottom of the pistons. we didnt cause we had no time and it was just a daily driver and i ended up giving away the injectors for free. the h23 has a rev limit of 6700rpm max. also the g23 has a crazy compression ratio.. somewhere near 11.2:1. i know the frankenstein i put togather pulled all the way to 7500rpm in all gears. and it wrapped up so fast after the 5500 vtec point.. dope.. simply dope.
