LOL @ Acura Stealership

LOL, I went to get a quote to get my timing belt and water pump changed since im hittin the 121k mile mark, thought it was time (better safe the sorry) and they quoted me for timing belt, fan belt, water pump, and fluid and such + labor at $799 with tax...... I Highly doubt its worth that much, but then again I did go to a dealership, what have some of you guys spent on all this?

The Pohanka dealership in Chantilly quoted me a bit more than that. I said F-that and got it done for $300.

My pops was a mechanic at a non-dealership and they let all their interns do the basic jobs. That's why some of those routine maintenance jobs comes out sloppy.

I mostly do my own work, but I was lazy and it was winter. I took it to my trusted mechanic and gave him $300 in beer money. That was 2 years ago. Car still runs like a champ. Don't use any random mechanic. Otherwise you will get random quality of service.

If you are in NoVA area, Goss' Garage (car repair radio show) always directs their listeners to their preferred-sponsor list. I never used any of their sponsors, but if they had shadey sponsors, they would have a lot of unhappy listeners.

The good thing about the dealership is you get a car loaner.

goddamn... t hat' pricey as hell.

I've had the timing belt off on my 3.0 before and I had no idea what I was doing, and my car has been running for almost 15k since then.

probably even easier to swap on an F2X, but only if you are confident in yourself.

the job isnt that hard, its just very timely because of the removal of many parts. your not working with much space down there so the removal of parts is mandatory so its easier to work.

Had to get a new alternator around 120k, got the timing belt and water pump changed at the same time. The total was in the ballpark of a grand, give or take some.. I don't quite remember. This was at a place that specializes in Acuras, with certified Acura mechanics.
