Lets talk cam(s) and cam gear(s)

This is something I would be interested in doing, granted reliability and idle were not sacrificed. What gains can be expected from these two mods?

I read somewhere on here where cams, cam gears, port and polished head, throttle body and intake mani can yield a good 50 HP, not sure if that's true...

Enlighten a noob.

ayougo 12-20-2005 01:27 AM

if your a 2.2 id suggest a delta cam regrind. Call em up and tell them what you have ( mods wise ) and how aggressive you want it and they'll do a nice regrind for you.

wilp99 12-20-2005 02:00 AM

isnt the 2.3 cam more agressive than the 2.2 being that is .1 litres bigger.

NauTiC* 12-20-2005 02:12 AM

Hows the idle and reliability with an aftermarket cam or regrind ?

ghost_masterCL 12-20-2005 02:36 AM

depends on teh cam or regrind.

shineynitelite 12-20-2005 02:59 AM

i wouldnt be worried about that stuff till you were done w/

intake, headers, cat back, pullies

thannnnnn cam stuff

Search man, your only option would be to get 3.2 Type S cams and get them machined

He's right...

You can get the cams for $250 new from the dealership, and have them machined for about $120...

Makes sense. So after i/h/e plus cam and cam gear, what hp gains can be expected?

wakeboardfusion 12-20-2005 07:57 PM

how hard is it to put the cls cams in, do you gotta take the motor out or waht?
is it the cam shaft or cam? and what is the gain from them

wilp99 12-21-2005 09:30 AM

Not bad. So coupled with a good i/h/e set up you can possible yield a little more than 8-10 hp right ? I'm just curious at this point, `cause come spring I plan on adding i/h/e(among other little mods) all at once and I wanna see If I should waste my time and money adding a cam and cam gear only to achieve minimal gains in hp, ya dig?

Cocoa 12-21-2005 02:57 PM

I gained 25whp with intake, headers, exhaust, pullies, and vafc2 tuned. There is a thread with my dyno on the boards. The camshafts tuned with those mods should be around 12-15whp gain.

Cocoa 12-21-2005 02:58 PM

As of now they don't make cam gears for our cars (3.0's). But someone out on the eastcoast had a custom one made for his car. He ran a 13.3 in his 3.0 with a 125 shot. He is currently selling his car.

Damn, not bad cocoa. At first I thought you were being sarcastic when I read "I gained 25whp with intake..." I have a 2.3 so I know they have cams out there, just a matter of finding one. A good 30-40 dont soud bad at all with i/h/e, pullies, cam and cam gear, and of course a good tuning. The 2.x needs it bad.

Damn, I found the old thread about my dyno, but it wont show up. I'll have to scan it again and show you the numbers if you want to see them...
