Leather wrapped steering wheel?!?!
Hey everyone! I checked around and did a search but I couldn't come up with anything on this topic. Probably my luck that it's just with my car and nobody else's! My 97 2.2cl has the leather wrapped steering wheel like everyone else's, but the way i drive has caused the leather on the top of the wheel to disentegrate and has now started to actually seperate. As you can imagine, this is REALLY tacky looking and I want to fix it. What are my options?? Has anyone else had to replace/reapir this? I don't know what to do at this point. I looked into installing a new MOMO Olympic steering wheel (really nice wheel too) but apparently I can't do it?? At least thats what I was told. Is there no hub adapter for our cars? Does anyone have an aftermarket wheel installed? If so, how did you do it? PLEASE help me get rid of this ugly problem!!
Thanx!

I had the same problem with my wheel... it started getting black patches in places where the leater wore away (kinda tells me its not real leather) but it was covered under warranty for me, so I got a new wheel. An aftermarket wheel isnt a good idea, because it is actually illegal to take the air bag out. So you may be stuck with buying a new wheel from acura (unless you have a warranty) or finding someone to stitch new leather on there.

I wonder if the new generation CL wheel will fit. That would be cool, because you would get the raised metal Acura emblem in the middle. Also, the Type-S wheel has perforated leather along the top which you can replace with one of the wood kits (brown or black)

I never really thought about replacing it with a new type S Wheel?? Can this be done? I would much rather purchase a new wheel in that case and plus, it would be a really nice looking install I think. What do you guys think about it? Do you think it can be done? Whose the "steering column" expert out there? hahaha :P

I don't have this problem so I wouldn't know, but I'm wondering, is it possible to just have the leather itself replaced rather than replacing the entire steering wheel? IMO, that would probably be the most cost effective solution and it would also preserve the orig look. I'll probably keep this car for a few more years so it'd be good to know in the event this does happen to me

the same thing is happening on mine I keep trying to find a new place to grab but nothing is confortable. I dont think that we can get a CL-S steering wheel considering the little metal A is on the airbag piece and not the actual wheel. I suppose you could buy it but i probly wouldn't fit. If it does though let me know.

You can buy a black wood steering wheel from ACP for $420. But that is just the wheel, you'd need to see if the airbags are the same. Oh well someone try it, I'd like to know.
