intake noise
I just installed an intake on my car and the pipe is really short like i showed you guys in another thread. I turned on my car and it makes a tuba kind of noise. Its non stop like somebodies blowing into a horn or something. And when i take the filter off of the intake and I put my hand over the pipe where the intake is suppose to be it stops. What could be the problem??

if you have another filter try putting that on. make sure that all your tubes are connected properly. there should be 2 hoses.
|
ill take a picture of it and show you guys. I couldnt put all the hoses on there. I put a Breather filter over the PCV valve or w/e its called and I dont need that hose to go inside the intake. And the Oxygen sensor doesnt have a place to be inserted in the intake. Ill take a picture of it now.

please do take a pic but it sounds like the hum that EVERYONE gets from the short ass intakes. search befoe you put a nub of an intake on your car

my intake
here is a picture of my intake i installed today. A buddy of mine checked it out and said the noise from it is because too much air is getting through the intake because the pipe is too short. But the noise isnt really noticeable. But for now im going to have this intake on there temporarly until I get a new one that actually is good.
Heres the link to the picture. http://img296.imageshack.us/my.php?i...dc14561mb7.jpg |
Yup short ass intake, did you take the resonator box out?
|
Threads merged, please stop starting new threads for the same issue, you have started at least 3 intake threads already.

mine doesnt make too much noise at idle, but even after changing to an actual K&N cone, it still whistles up in the 2.5-2.8k range. my intake is about 4" long. ok it's a 4" exhaust pipe with a filter attached....there I said it.
|
k&n filter def improves the sound of an intake
|
i bought the ebay cold air intake, it works, and looks cool.
old picture but you get the idea and theyre cheap. just slap a K&N on it and youre good to go http://i258.photobucket.com/albums/h...cture107-1.jpg |
For christ sake wash your engine you can put a new intake on and not wash your engine. I wanna see a washed picture in 2 day or I'm stealin your car......LOL
|
my short ram hummed too so i took out the resonator box and it helped alot. i also just got a K&N for my CAI and it made it sound 10x better.

i have a million things to do with the car it seems like and never enough time to do it |
^^me thinks ethanol was joking. or at least I dont think it's dirty:scratch:
Stupid question, what does the resonator box have to do with this? I thought removing that was merely to increase airflow, didnt think it would change the sound of an SRI. I've removed mine, but I thought any noise at idle was from the injectors. My old toyota suffered from this problem horribly, sounded like I had a bunch of hissing snakes in my engine. |
all that little intake is going to do is suck in heat since its so close to the motor, get a cai so its lower and away from the motor
|
Intakes will hum if u don't take the resonator out, and Ebay intake and k&n is the only way to go
|
I think Eth was directing it more to JdmAck's intake cause thats hella dirty compared to blind-shooter
