increase gas mileage

so i just filled up this morning and i drove 130 mile and fill up about 12.6 gallons of gas. so it comes out to just a lil over 12mpg. this is fucking bullshit!!! especially i'm paying 2.83/gallon. anyway I can increse the gas mileage on this car? No way a normal car can only go 12mpg. I do city bumper to bumper traffic everyday w/ no highway driving. I have a 97 3.0.

thanks guys

$1.25 for some 87 in da dirty dirty. I usually get around 23mpg of mostly city driving, around 15 gallons for every 340 miles. I also really enjoy the beatiful music my intake and exhaust make when I am in VTEC, where I try spend lots of time.

12mpg sounds real crappy, get your checked out, plugs, wires, fuel injectors something is wrong, there is no way your car gets the same mileage as an Escalade.

Def. have it check out, we had a jag that got horrible mileage and it was because of a vaccuum line After we had it fixed the mileage went way up

Get a major tune up no way should you be getting 12 mpg.

Have you ever changed your fuel filter?

supposed to change filter every 10k
spend $20 and do it yourself if it hasen't been changed recently.
could be a lot of things wrong, start with the basic tune-up and go from there. unless you like paying for labor, do it yourself

I pay between 1.40-1.55 for mid grade. It fluctuates a lot here in Mich. I get about 17 city, 24 hwy.

Another question. What's best to use: Regular, premium or midgrade?

You get what you pay for. In the long run your engine will be alot happier if your using higher grade fuel.

Using premium (93), I get about 2-4 mpg less than with 87.

Overall, I pay about $4.11 per gallon (17 gallons).

$1.64 for 93 octane plus $42.00 for 10 lbs. of N2O!

i use premium, at least that's what they call it. i got it 2nd hand w/ only 38000 miles on it. but there's no highway here and all the driving is done under 40mph. to and from work will be like 25 if i'm lucky and a lot of stop-n-go.

i was thinking about maybe a dirty air filter. thinking about getting a K&n but I've been to the pepboys and autozones in miami and none of them carry our model. where is the fuel filter located? I have to do it myself one day.

I put full synthenic in the day i bought it and hasn't even driven over 2k miles. so i don't think it's the oil

also, where is that vaccum line you're talking about? I need to check that out myself. No acura dealership here. and the honda ppl are a bunch of dumbasses.

thanks guys

Time for you to get some tools, a service manual and a buddy so you can do the minor repairs yourself.

Your gas prices are high indeed, and your mileage sucks, so there is something wrong and I hope you find it soon!

Besides, I'd much rather be in your shoes in the beautiful land of beaches, than the congestion of asshole taxi drivers of Washington, DC.

ok, i just used the turny clicky thing to take out my air filter cover. it looks pretty bad. so i think i'm going to pick up a K&N when i go back to the states. Where can i find a good price on the net?

also, where is the gas filter? i think i'm going to change that too.

Its under the brake master cylinder and is not very easy to get to (like dont even try it).

I'd pay to have that one changed.

yeah i live in cali, and gas is expensive. i put about 45,000 miles on my car a year so here's some tips that i do. i don't know if they're right but i works for me.
-never let your gas tank go past the 1/2 mark. i lower half always seems to run out quicker.
-use unical 76 brand gasoline. it last. San Diego to Pomona on back on a 3/4 of a tank of gas, i cali traffic, that's preety good.
-clean out your fuel injection system every 20,000 miles

like i said, i don't know if these tips work for every one but i'm just trying to help out.
