Exclamation I need stereo help.

Does anyone know the specs of the factory stereo in a 1998 Acura 2.3 CL? Or at least a website where I can find the info? I don't want to have to take the car apart just to get the info. I think I blew out my amp and I wasn't even playing it loud enough to cause distortion. I need to replace the amplifier. On that note, what should I be looking for in an amp that will be compatible with the factory system. I'm considering upgrading the factory speakers too. I don't want a loud-ass banging system...just something modest that sounds good. I ain't a pimp or a playa and I'm not going to pretend to be one.

There is no amp in the factory system. There is an internal amp in the stereo. These stereo's aren't very good and go out all the time. You have to get a new stereo...it will work after that. It's just the deck that's bad. If you want amps, you have to get a new stereo with RCA's. One set for each channel you need. You can put an amp in with the stock stereo (if it still worked) but it's not that great.

MCBfly, i'll sell you my OEM amp if you want, given if it's the same thing.

It's not a Bose system

I guess it's what they call "premium". Premium my ass. So do I really have to get a new deck? Right now now it has some sound, but it's so low that I can't hear a damn thing if I drive with my window open. And if I attempt to crank it up just a notch I get severe distortion in the base.

Are there aftermarket decks with an internal amp? Would you recommend that or should I invest in a separate amp?

99.95% of aftermarket decks are internally amped. Throw a new deck in that biotch. Call her a day. You will lose your steering wheel buttons unless you buy a SWIX.

There's another issue I have. My steering wheen buttons don't always function properly. I hear this is a common problem with Acuras. Sometimes the trach or channel changes when I press the volume bottuns, sometimes there's no response, sometimes the buttons work properly. I avoid using the steering button wheels altogether but it would be great if they worked.

so i guess that you have a Bose system. if you want to change out your head unit, you'll have to change out your speakers too. this is b/c the bose system runs on 2 ohms but the aftermarket one run at 4 ohms.

if you want a cheap way to just get some sound, you can just replace that amp, if you think that's the problem. i'll sell mine to you for $25+shipping. i have no use for it, it's just sitting in my trunk space.

No, it's not a Bose system. It's the so-called "premium" system. Someone said there's no external amp and it's internal, integrated into the deck. I guess I might have to get a new deck. I'm also considering upgradeing the speakers.

I thought we already decided that it isn't a BOSE system. If your buttons don't work. Take them off your steering wheel. Get a new deck with a remote. Maybe even a steering wheel remote!!!

Eric can you post a pic of your BOSE amp by the jack. Just to clarify? Thanks bro.

Teacher,"Excuse me, Eric. What are you looking at on the internet?"

Eric, "I'm talking to my friends"

Teacher, "Um, Yeah.... I'm gonna need you to come in on Saturday..... Yeah. Thanks."

Eric, "No way. I'm wakeboardfusion bitch!!"

I should write screen plays.

Well if it doesn't say Bose on the deck and it doesn't say Bose on the rear speaker covers, it's not bose. It's been established that it's not Bose, so that is no longer the issue here. Get a new deck. Like uncald4 said before almost all aftermarket decks are internaly amped. If you want to upgrade speaker but don't wanna spend lots of money, get Inifnity, Boston Acoustics, Pioneer, etc. Those are good, but not super high end expensive.

It sorta looks like a weird shaped one, but it's a little disturbing that you would even think such a thing.

Yup. Looks like a dong to me.

Eric. You see the amp I stole from a customer? Not to brag.....but... It eats MRD1000's for breakfast. I wish you lived closer. I could use some help with the TL. I'm looking at either a dub 7 or a dub 6 in the fiberglass enclosure. Just one. I need something that won't choke under such extreme force.

Not wide enough. It couldn't be fully motorized. I'm thinking about taking the factory deck out. And placing the controls for the new amp on the cassette slot. Maybe even motorized. The TL is a hard car to figure out man. I can usually slide into a car and plot out all kinds of shit. But I sit in the TL everyday. I'm stumped.
