I got white face gauges only...looks great
Hey
A while ago I ordered white face gauges only, and tried to put hyper white LED's behind the gauges to have hyper white color instead of the green/blue....but I kind of messed that up...and will probably try again during spring break since I still have 35+ LED's left...
But right now, I have a 96 Accord gauge setup behind the faces, and it lines up PERFECTLY....looks stock to me....and doesn't have an indiglo switch to use....I think it's great
The two bulbs above the gauge cluster is gonna be changed...
I bought a 12v 6" UV blacklight thing....so when it shines it'll make the white needles glow, as well as the gauges....sorry that I don't have pics right now...mom took the digi-cam for her real estate business...I have 2 sets of gauges one is torn up due to my project, so I wanted to test them
Here's what I came up with:
The only needle that can come out is the speedometer...all the other needles will break.
The oil and gas needles are very fragile...I barely had to pull to rip them off....the RPM gauge however can be pulled pretty hard before it comes out, since the entire thing comes out....the Needle and the little tiny metal pin thing come out together.
You can put the RPM gauge one back in, but you have to do it perfectly for it to work, I was never successful so I can't prove this.
The gas and oil needle just completely come out and can't be put back on....so if you break those you're screwed.
I found out how to stop mileage from rising, and reset the meter to 0...the main mileage one....I did it on the spare one but I kept my normal one running normally...don't want to do anything illegal.
If anyone wants a certain mileage...
The accord 94-97 gauge cluster isn't exactly the same....
The RPM gauge is a little different....on a stock 1997 CL 3.0 cluster, the 4000 RPM mark is practically dead top....while the accord has it shifted to the left by about 250 RPM...so when I redline the car (on CL gauge) it marks about 250-300 RPM thru red on the Accord cluster. The speedometer is in the same place, as well as the oil and the gas.
The accord cluster has different needles...the CL has more rounded semi-bigger ones while the Accord has thin rectangle looking ones...but still work the same
The mounts on the accord cluster to mount into the car differ...the accord has 2 brackets on its sides and 2 on bottom while the CL has the 2 bottom ones (same) but has the 2 metal flat things on the top to mount the top.
The model numbers on all the circuit boards for all the individual gauge units are the same, as well as the circuit board. The only difference in the format is that the Accord DOESN'T have an ABS light...maybe the accord I took it from didn't have ABS...I dunno?
Sorry if this is long, I just wanted to share my analysis of the gauge clusters...
So....if you're installing indiglo faces....Make sure to be careful with the oil, gas, and RPM gauge...the speedometer can come out if you pull hard enough.

no u cannot replace just the needles. u gotta replace the whole cluster. what u can do is take a what ever color permanent marker and color in the needle on the front side only. that will give it a color. i did it on my explorer, thats how i know itll work.
or u could replace the bulbs above the cluster to have a totally different color than the guages. that might work also.

Is it possible to change all the gauges to the 98-99 orange needles?? I will buy the fuel, water temp, and tach. But can the speedo's needle just be replaced?

lol
yea the speedo needle can come out...but make sure that you put it in good...
I put mine in at about the 5 1/2 clock position and it's still about 5 mph too fast....(says 40 when i'm going 35)....so im guessing put it in the 5 o'clock position
