I didn't use Honda ATF...

I went toa shop to do a tranny drain/fill and the owner used Valvoline Maxlife (says on the bottle ok for Honda ATF Z1) he told me it's pefectly fine.

He knows the guy who rebuilt my transmission, and told me if there is any problems they will TAKE CARE OF IT.

Im debating, If i should leave it in there?

Because I have about 3/4 Honda ATF and I guess 1/4 Valvoline Maxlife ATF...

What you guys think I should do? Also is he really liable like he said? He knows the guy that rebuilt my transmission, so I'm wondering if I should just keep it in there and see what happens.

Dude I use RedLine synthetic. Works great, especially since I'm always beating the shit out of my tranny. People just get scared to go to something else, because usually people go to something really cheap and shitty, and then post about how their shit died.

No, Valveline is nice. I use the synthetic 5w20. As for ATF... I would imagine that it is good stuff. I still use Honda ATF. If the guy you have service your ride is hooked up with the guy that rebuilt you transmission... I think you are safe... especially if he openly admits liability.

I mean I told him numerous times, that the place that rebuilt my tranny told me to use Honda ATF, and he insisted it would be fine. I didn't want to start a whole scene so I said alright.

If anything is gonna happen, it would happen then... Hell, I've heard of old transmissions going in for a change, and not driving out. But, don't think that will happen in your case. Were you having trouble with the rebuilt transmission, or just doing normal maintainence? You'll be fine.

Just trying to be a good CL person, and put clean tranny fluid in... I guess I did more harm then good. Should I redo it this weekend and order 12 qts and re do it myself, or just leave it?

Where the hell all the tranny experts at.

Maxlife is a good product, your tranny will be fine, especially if you have honda ATF in there as well. But why would you top off the fluid and not change it? you are worried about putting another brand in, but you are driving around with 3/4 dirty sludge, and 1/4 good maxlife? just curious, but maxlife will be fine for your tranny.

Wow, overkill... You only need to do it about every 15K or once a year. But you will be fine.

Ya I called up about 3 dealership service departments, and they all say stupid stuff.

one guy is like I put honda atf, in my chrysler.... the other guy said "well aslong as you didn't put brake fluid in"... man its crazy to think these are the people that you pay soo much to work on your car at the dealership, glad i don't go there...

Why is Maxlife ok? I thought anything other then HONDA ATF was VERY BAD. Now it's ok? I mean I hope it is, I'm ordering a case of 12 qt's so I have it for the future to do whenever I want.

itll be ok.. in fact when you rebuild a tranny you have to soak the clutch packs for 1 hour in tranny fluid before you install them. or theyll burn up prematurley (spelling police). in the owners manual it says to use dextron III as a sutable temporary sub. i would think as long as your changin it on a pretty frequent basis, youll be fine.. why not if its cheaper.. you can use honda ztf in any vehicle.. its just made to be self cooling.(yea right.)so theoretically it should be better. and your runnin an additional cooler so thats even better...well thats it.
