I am suddenly FAWKED!!!!
well... 6 yrs and 75,465 miles later... driving home.. my TRANNY kicks the shit!!!! No warning.. no nothing... suddenly at 80 mph it downs shifts itself so my rpms shoot from 3k to 6500 and then back to norm... I pull over... confused I try and start up again.. and its all outta wack.... I try to start in D3 and she moves ok.. but It wont shift outta 1st....
All I wanted to do was to sell the bitch... Found out it is ballpark $1600 to $2100 to rebuild my tranny... I wanted $9k neg. with stereo and upgrades.. now I am gonna ask for $6k firm... and the buyer can save $1000 or so dollars...

what do you mean by drive hard but not abuseive? does that mean a lot of WOT, but you don't pull the e-brake while going 60 for a quick u-turn? Do you do a lot of WOT? Do you corner at high speeds? how often, if at all, do you gate shift? Do you ever manually downshift the car, or just go WOT and let the tranny do it for you? Just trying to get an idea of driving habits on trannys that fail to see if I'm suceptible to this failure... even though I plan on putting in a Dr. Evil anyways, and going FI, but still gotta know how the stock one works first since I may not have the cash for a dr. evil for several years...

That sucks man. Really, right before your ready to bail and something like that surfaces you know I have been told that tranny flushes open a can of worms and they shouldn't even be done unless you are having a problem with the tranny.

i just know mine is gonna wait to go right after my extended warranty expires... that's exactly what happened with my last car -- all the problems started like the day after the warranty ran out.

my "driving hard" consists of speeding and reving the car through the gears... I have used D3 to slow down but not rgualrly... I do not use anything other than D4 ever!!! I dont nuetral drop or bake stand or any nonsense and I dont race... it was just time...
as for tranny flush tranfusions... it simply replaces tranny fluid through out the system... been doin them since day 1 of the car... my tranny never had an issue b4... car always ran great with them....
ah well

what you saw/experienced was driving hard... accelerating fast and speeding is not abuse...

no man, only use D4 if you are going to be going 45 or faster. If you're doing mostly city driving just use D3.I pop it into D4 in my area because I have large stretches of raod without a stoplight where it's 45 but I jsut go 50-55 so I put it into D4 to save gas. If I put it into D4 in the regular driving if I'm going 35-40 and I have it in D$ and I lightly accelerate the car shakes from the strain on the engine, so I just leave it in d3 in city driving. when I slow down sometimes I pop it into d3 so I don't use up my brakes too much. think of D4 as putting the car in overdrive. you wouldn twant to do that if youwere going 35.

you should not run d3 at all unless you are going up hill or something
when you drop it into d3 picture your clutch plates pressing against each other and with enough pressure they grind down
heres a pic of what my clutch plates look like after my tranny went out i was so surprise and i used d3 only to catch up on the freeway onramp and playing catch up with a little ricer
these pics are pictured from right to left
1st gear to 2nd gear
2nd gear to 3rd *look at the second plate, thats 3rd and its smokey as fuck
3rd to 4th gear
just look at all the stress and black residue from shifting and grinding the paltes from shifting from d3 to d4, i hope these pics do justice and show ya not to shift like that

uhhmmm.... that makes no sense man.By putting it into d3 all youa re doing is electronically preventing the tranny from shifting into 4th gear.. that's it. As I recall it even says to do that in the manual, not to mention I asked my local acura dealer and they said the same exact thing. Of all people they should know.

that's probably because our tranny problems don't show up tlil 70+ k miles. the second gens fuck up with as little as 5k miles. now that isa HUGE defect.
edit: speaking of trannys. the dr evil transmission is just a part replacement of the stock tranny right? same design and everything. So if it retains the same design and they just replave the parts won't it also retain teh same design flaw? Or do the upgraded parts fix that flaw?

actually the 1st - 1st gens had major tranny issues as well...
They recalled and sent out warnings at one point years ago.. my VIN was after the fact...
who knows why.. probably because she is mad that I am ridding her... its the "Christine" factor in effect!!!!
