hub over rotor design on 1997

hey i noticed some previous discussions about how it is a bitch to remove rotors on 97 cls, however i was wondering other than it being a hassle to remove the rotor on this type of design, is there any advantages to the 98+ designs other than convenience to remove the rotor or change parts? is there any compensations in reliablity/braking etc.?

It's not that hard to remove them. You just need the proper tools. Then it becomes a piece of cake. Me and my dad have a homemade puller so it makes it easy!:P

When I replaced the rotors the first time (late 2001/early 2002), it was on a Sunday, all the local dealer/part stores/speed shops were closed. I refused to wait, so we split the knuckle, and put the rotors on the hard way.

This time (late 2003), I said "fuck it" and decided that I didn't even want to mess with them. I paid the local Honda dealer $260 or $270 for the labor.

I wish I had this (or something like it): http://murtaughs.tripod.com/murtaughs/index.htm (sorry for the pop-ups)

I think you can rent the special tool at a parts store...you might want to give that a shot before paying $270

the hub is not pressed over the rotor. once you remove the controll arms from the knuckle and take doen the assembly you unscrew 4 bolts and the rotor will turn and slide off.

im pretty sure you still have to press them off. heres a pic of mine before we pressed them off

you need a machine to do it. I would ask around for the best price. I got quoted from many places for $200+ i lucked out and my friend knew a guy and he did it for me for $70

you paid 70 dollars to unscrw 4 bolts... you can get the bearing out of the knuckle yourself with a wheel puller.

^^If you have the hub puller, you can do it yourself. But, can you put the rotor back on without the press?
