How heavy am I?
Its been bothering me for a while now. I've done a little bit of research... sooo..
Whats the curb weight on my 97 2.2 CL?

3009 lbs.

What the hell? Am I reading something wrong? Am I missing something?

the number on your door is the GVWR (or Gross Vehicle Weight Rating). basically the maximum weight the vehicle is RATED to carry. 4010 lbs GVWR - 3040 lbs curb weight = 970lbs the amount of extra weight you can have in the car to keep it compliant with its GVWR (the weight the engine powertrain, ect. is rated to handle)

Simply put it is how much weight your vehicle is designed to carry. The GVWR includes the net weight of the vehicle, plus the weight of, passengers, fuel, cargo and any accessories added to the vehicle after purchase. The GVWR is a safety standard used to prevent over loading.
Q. How do I make sure I'm not overloading my vehicle?
The easiest way to determine how much weight your vehicle is designed to carry is to subtract the net weight of the vehicle (found in your owners manual) from the GVWR (found on the drivers door post). The remaining number is the maximum weight your vehicle is designed to safely carry. It includes passengers, fuel and cargo.) Aftermarket accessories or equipment must be added to the net wait of the vehicle. If you want to check the net weight of your vehicle you can task it to an certified Weigh Scale to be weighed.
Q. What happens when a vehicle is loaded above its GVWR?
Vehicles that operate above the GVWR are a potential safety hazard because the frame, suspension, tires and brakes are not designed for weights above the rating the manufacturer has set. Overloading a vehicle can also result in increased maintenance costs.
Q. Can my vehicle be modified to carry more weight and increase my GVWR?
This is an expensive option for light trucks and because of the criteria associated with increasing a vehicles GVWR, it may be difficult to find a facility to do the work. Check with your motor pool or tire dealer to be sure you are driving on the appropriate tire for load and conditions.
Q. Does balancing the load make any difference?
A balanced load is very important. All the steering and a lot of the braking are done by the front wheels, if all the weight is in the rear, steering, braking and control is reduced up front. Place some of the heavy items forward to balance the load.

Helms manual for the 2.2 (haven't bought the 3.0 supplement yet) says that the GVWR is 4,010 Lbs. Canadian it's 1,820 Kg
That's the gross though, which is the max weight, I know the car doesn't weigh more than 3,000something pounds, (ton and a half)
