How do I remove stock cd/radio?
Hi,
I recently replaced the battery and now the radio needs the security code. I don't have the card and it's not anywhere to be found in the car as suggested in some other posts (ashtray, glovebox, trunk, fuse box, etc.)
The dealer claims they can't look it up by VIN which is pretty dumb if you ask me, these days when everything is in a database...
It looks like the only choice I have is to remove the radio/cd player and look for the serial number and then go to the dealer.
Can someone please describe the removal process before I start taking apart more than necessary?
I have a '98 2.3CL "Premium" if that makes a difference ...
Thanks a lot for your help!

STEREO REMOVAL
I Just had the same problem with my daughter's '95 CIVIC EX... there is a website (I found with GOOGLE search) which has complete directions and photos for stereo removal. It took about 5 mins. and a call to dealer with number and we were in business.

Doable, but why in the world does it need to be this complicated/time consuming?

The original dealer that first sold the car brand new will definently have the code if you give them the VIN. If they BS you, insist on speaking with someone higher up until they give it to you.

I tried calling the dealer that first sold the car and apparently they tried looking up the VIN but could not find any security codes. They claim they purge the system once in a while ...
The bastards here where I live in the San Francisco area want to charge me $110 to remove the stereo. For that much I can buy a much nicer, new one and get rid of that POS stock stereo.
I guess my last resort is the screw driver as the car is not worth upgrading the stereo.

Just take it out and check the back, I am sure somebody is able to retrieve the number. I think you can try customer services on the phone at ACURA. I know some people who was able to do that. It is really not that hard.
