There are other things like wattage (of course), lumens, reflection, refraction, and projection for starters. The arc light source in an HID headlamp is different from the filament light source used in tungsten/halogen headlamps. For that reason, HID-specific optics are used to collect and distribute the light. Installing HID bulbs in headlamps designed to take filament bulbs results in improperly-focused beam patterns and excessive glare, which is what will get you pulled over. After having projector HID on my 04TL, I am convinced that is the best way to go. Retrofit FTW

And yes, 6000K is the best mixture of light output and color IMHO i have it on my CL projectors and my 4runner headlights, just keep debating about retrofitting my 4runner, I still have a6 projectors I never used

Ok, now i am stuck on a color choice like many others are. I was originally going to get 4300K but now I see 5000k kits. I want the kit to look OEM, and at the same time look like an 04+TL's. I know the blue that emits from the TL is from the projector, but I wont be using projectors so I would like to replicate this look. Would 4300K still be my best choice or should I choose a little higher color temp? I don't want it too be too blue, so I don't think I would like anything 6000k or above.

6000K it's beautiful
I wanted the same thing you said and went with 6000K and am so happy with the color choice, 5000 might be nice, but if you want it to be blueish i'd go 6

Hi,
I recently bought a HID kit for $97 and some change shipped, They are the low beam 9006 bulbs with 5000K burning temperature. You get the max output at this temperature rating and from here on the light output in lumnes just keeps gong down as you go up on the "K" factor. So a higher "K" like 6000k,8000k and so on will actually give you less light just the tint will keep getting more&more blue till it becomes purple and then finally green that how the spectrum of light works.
Most of the OEM HID kits that come factory installed are at 4500k which is the Legal DOT limit so by being at 5000k you are not that noticable but are maximizing the HID kit efficiency.
I bought my kit form ebay, researched the feedback throughly cause a lot of these guys sell cheap ass chinese kits that are not worth it at all. Now a days you also get slim balasts kit. Search on ebay and study the system well before you get into buying an HID kits. Basically they are preatty easy to install plug and play kits. But if you are not mechanically inclined then you might as well get it done from aprofessional.
Kits made by MTEC are the best but are expensive.
My 2% to ur question.
Thankx

I think the rest can be figured out. I still say 6K and that individual headlight quality and output is based on more than just Kelvins and lumens. BTW, I believe the TL OEM lights are 4300K.

4300k provides the best output of any other color temp
anything above and below it and you lose ground luminosity
your eyes may 'think' a 6k or 7k bulb is 'brighter', but the amount of light it actually puts to the ground is a lot less than 4300k
end of story

OK, I just bit the bullet and got 5000k plug and play kit off ebay for $130. I also choose shipping insurance just in case something happens during shipment. Ill try to take some pictures after I install them. Lets just hope they are not too blinding and attract cops. But so many newer cars now a days are equipped with HIDs standard, so nobody would probably know the difference.

Hi RyanCHICL,
bump me at javedkhansaheb@yahoo.com, the same happened with memine didn't fire as well i wrote to the guy who sold me he sent me instructions whihc I can forward it to you. Basicall you have to switich the polarity like the negative and positive, this you have to on the the balast side where the cable connects the balast to the stock wiring. I can forward you the instruction if you email me. it is pretty easy you can do it with juts a pin tool or some thing.
Hope this helps, also if the HID bulb is a 9006 base bulb it should fit the socket, don't use to much forac as you might crack the fiber but try it it should fit mine fit pretty esaily.
Hope this helps.
Thankx
Javed
