Hesitation when accelerating from a stop...
When I'm stopped and try to go, my car hesitates for a couple seconds, then lurches forward. Is it tranny related or engine? Think it might be related to the TB spacer?
welcome to my problems...dude...you should search my threads in the past month...Ive been posting and asking the same thing...mines doin the same shit...
Mine first started after my checkengine light came on for the EGR valve being clogged. Acura replaced everything under warranty and cleaned everything out, but i still have the engine problems. (yes, both acura and my other shop told me it was def. engine related...but didnt know the cause)
Well a month later, my check engine light has come on again...and its the o2 sensor (bank1) thats gone bad. From what I was told, this is possibly the cause to the problem. The o2 was going bad, the engine was "addaptive learning" trying to fix the problem...and then the o2 finally went bad. My system is running too lean, and so they think with all the oxygen and no gas, thats why its been F*ing up....
Soo if i were u, look into the o2 sensor. Do urself a favor and keep an eye on ur gas milage. Mines been getting worse and worse because for the past month, the car's been just dumping gas into the engine to try to help compensate for it being too lean...So keep an eye on ur gas milage. If it gets worse and worse, then maybe its ur o2 sensor.
NOTE: I havnt replaced mine yet because I was trying to get some information on if aftermarket ones will work, or 2.2's will work for the 3.0...etc....but no one helped me..So...I'm just hoping the o2 goin bad is the cause for my engine running like shit...but im not sure yet...
Bottom line...i know EXACTLY what ur talking about...mines doin the same shit.

Hope it's that and not the tranny.
Might be spark plugs, but I replaced those not too long ago.

im so glad someone mentioned this, just two day ago im driving and i come to a sudden stop then i come to accelerate and the car just jerks for like 5 seconds like it wants to shut off then just drives normal. thought maybe it time for a tune up?

Yep...i know what u guys are goin though...ive been dealing with all of this for the past month. During slow accel, the RPMS drop...the car jerks, acts like its going to die, and then VVAARRROOMMM...takes off. I was lucky to have my EGR F* up so Acura replaced everything from the valve, plugs & wires, cleaned the ports...etc, all for free. So I knew that wasnt why my car was acting up. (at first, i thought it was all caused by everything being soo clogged w/ carbon) I tried fuel system cleaners, did a seafoam treatment...etc...nothing worked.
Anyway, after i got it back from Acura, it ws still runnin like shit, and they told me there was no codes, no check engine light, nothing...so they didnt know what was wrong, and told me to keep driving it.
It took about a month for the o2 to completly go bad and throw a code. So FINALLY I have reason to believe that the problem can be fixed.
What might be happening to u was whats been happening to me. Ur o2 is going bad, ur running waaayyyy too lean (too much oxygen....thus, the stalling and sputtering) so ur engine (ECU) is trying to fix the problem by dumping a shit-ton of gas to correct the ratio of air/fuel. Thus now, u smell ur car running, and its like having ur nose burried inside a gas can. (mines still doing all of this)
NOW....that hopefully gives u somethin to keep an eye out for, and check...but to me, it sounds just like my problems...and thats the o2
Can anyone give any on our cars o2 sensors though?? Ive heard sometimes aftermarket ones can totaly F* everything up. Also, can the 2.2's and 3.0 use the same sensors? Im just trying to find one cheaper than the $250 that Acura is quoting me....

This sounds like the same problem that I have had with my car for quite a long time now. Now, with my situation, I have thrown two codes. 1) Cat below threshold. 2) V-Tech Malfunction. If I am driving and down shift to kick in some speed, when I get above 3500-4000 it will spudder, and then I up shift to lower the RPM's and everything is ok. The car seems to be running a bit rough now too. What I mean is that the RPM's at Idle are not 100% consistent like they used to be, now sometimes it goes above and sometimes below the default. Now, I don't think my 02's are bad at all, no codes there. I have posted threads on this issue before, no literally no one being able to offer up any sense or advice. Finally I have found a few people with the same problem (I think) Any help ya'll can give would be greatly appreciated. The most help I got was from the kid at the auto shop that said maybe a tune up would fix my problems. Not a bad idea to start with the small stuff, then go to the larger things. But seriously, I can't see how a simple tune up would fix something like this, could it? BTW, I have a 5 speed 2.3 '98.
I had a similatr experience about a week ago. It felt as though the brake was still engaged or something. But it only did it twice last week and hasn't since. I think we may be suffering from fuel grade transition. A mixture of winter and summer gas is being sold and this could be making octane levels inconsistant. My car has thrown no codes and appears to run and idle fine. Try an octane booster or even a fuel stabelizer. I know a lot of people are driving to find the cheapest fuels. This can also give you various grades of fuel. Try to stay with the same fuel source if you can.
Good luck.
Good luck.
when im accelerating, the car dosnt go, and the RPMS will drop from like 2K to 1K...then takes off...
Ive learned to let off the gas, and push it back in, when it feels like its gonna lag...and that seems to help...Ive still gotta get a new o2 though..

hesatation at a stop ? i have seen alot of people have that problem. the light turns green and they dont move until you honk at them lol there problem was that they were talking on the phone or dint see the light lol
It would seem that there are a lot of opinions on this... I do NOT feel as though it has anything to do with the transmission. It is most certainly a fuel delivery issue. Whether it is related to fuel quality, or computer-related fuel problems, I am sure it wouldn't hurt for you to get a tune up. But don't dispare, this is not the transmission. I know from experience what that feels like, and this was not that by any means. Is it possible that some of you could have gotten water in your fuel. If this is the case, use HEAT to get the water out.
Good luck,
HEAT is an additive that can be purchased at most automotive stores. SeaFoam will not help bad fuel. But it couldn't hurt to do it after yuou've ruled out bad fuel.
