Help not break woodgrain!!!

Im tring to install a new cdplaying in m 98 2.3 and I am having difficulties taking off the woodgrain rim around the factory reciever. I have the all the screws out im sure, the its getting stuck on the right hand side, the clip right before it starts to curve up. Does anyone have any tips or tricks i should say to get this off with out breaking it, i think i have already put a lttile hairline crack or 2 in it there I dont want any more.

On a 98 you have to rip the entire center console out all the way back to the arm rest part from what i understand. Correct me if i'm wrong though. Its not difficult just a pain in the ass to have to do to remove the stereo.

Oh i eventually got it off that day, but the retaining clip was stuck to the trim and would not come off, i ended up breaking the part that clip attaches to but no biggie.
