Question Help!!

Guys,

I'm not sure what's going on but I've recently been experiencing shift problems. I have a '97 auto tran 3.0 CL with about 71,000+ miles, and when I'm speeding/accelerating I notice a "jump" in the car shift. It has a hard shift. I even noticed last night that when I'm accelerating the car goes up to 4 rpm and then suddenly drop to 2 rpm, and then 5 rpm and drops to 2 1/2 rpm, finally settling. Slowing/stoping causes the same issue too. It's difficult to suddenly accelerate right after slowing, and I can notice dramatic jump in shift when I'm slowing.

This NEVER ever happened in the past. What exactly is going on? Does it have to with the battery; I bought some no-name battery about 1 1/2 half ago. Is it the gas grade? I got between 89 and 93, but mostly (98%) 93.

Thanks.
