Headlight mayhem

What up guys. I did some searches and tried to read a lot of VXCL's posts. Unfortunately I'm not imformed enough to understand some of the terminology. Could somebody clarfiy the different types of headlights for me? I want to do something but I don't really know the differences between xenon, HID, projector, H1 etc. Also what is involved with custom fitting this type of thing on my 99 2.3 Thanks for any input. Sorry if this is a newb question

Well ill let vxcl answer this but this is some of what little i know: stay away from bulbs that say "xenon" that are like 25 bucks on ebay they will never output anything like a real hid setup. Real hid setups are the ones like the audi's bmw's and the 2nd gen cl's. Those consist of ballasts and d2r or d2s bulbs. H1 is a type of bulb or housing like ex. the stock cl is 9006. Most projectors are h1 and use h1 bulbs. Projectors will better distribute the light then the oem housings but some modification will be required. Custom fitting just d2s or d2r bulbs wouldn't be hard all you'd have to do is get it focused. Id stay away from kits that dont use phillips or osram bulbs.

Edit: They make conversion kits but most use cheap bulbs and ballasts. I would get a setup from VXCL he will give you stuff that will last.

ok there are many types of projectors

h1, and h7 are newer halogen projectors that are similar to xenon projectors. everyone know a good projector will increase light performace over a reflector. so you have two choices. either retro a halogen h1 or h7 projector and get the mean look and get much better light output (u can get a h1 hid kit in the future and have decent xenon setup) or retro a xenon projector in there and save yourself some money in the long run.

h1 parts = about $50-70
xenon parts = $350-450

a d2s xenon projector requires xenon d2s bulbs and a pair of xenon ballasts. then u also get to make a wiring harness. a halogen projector setup like h1 or h7 would only require hooking to the oem wiring.

I have a 2nd gen CL-S. Is it necessary that I separate the clear plastic from the housing in order to do the retrofit?
