Headed seats weak?
Greetings all!
I just picked up my 1st CL - and the nicest car i've every owned last night! I'm stoked to have found this forum, lots of good info here!
Only complaint I have about the car at the moment is that the heated seats don;t seem to do much of anything, the buttons light up by the shifter, and I "think" I feel some heet deep down in the seats on both sides, but it might be my imagination because they are really weak.
Is there a fix for this, or is this normal for our cars?
Thanks!
Stew

They are known to go bad after extended use. They should be hot and toasty, sometimes mine heat up and burn my legs. They also have a regulator I believe taht turns them on and off, I think that could go bad. Search on here, lots of people have had probs with their heated seats. Welcome to the forum

It's kinda weird cause mine get real warm, then they seem to shut off and then turn on again after a while... I think they have a thermostat to keep them from overheating. If they are weak, you might have a poor connection, or your charging system may not be putting off the right amperage. If the seat is turning on, but not getting warm enough, have your charging system checked to be sure the alternator is puting out the correct amperage. The seats draw a shitload of amps. Good luck.

Thanks for all the replies.. i didnt find a whole lot of info searching for "heated seats". I'll listen for a "click" from the relay tomorrow, hopefully that's what it is. Does anyone know where the relay is located?
I'm on a mission to fix the heaters!
Any other insight on fixing the heaters would be greatly apreciated!
Oh yeah, my do light up, so I assume there is power to the switch - so it can't be just a fuse?

Yeah.. sounds like that's the common culprit.
I havn't sat in my passenger seat yet - but i'm wondering if there is any truth to there being a sensor in the seat that determin if someone is in it before it turns the heater on - as mentioned in another thread? Seems liek a lot of extra technology for nothing, but if it is true I wonder if this sensor goes bad?
If it is frayed wires can i run new ones rather than replace the entire element? Has anyone actually atempted this fix by themselves?

The heated seats don't have a pressure sensor.. but you won't feel heat by resting your hand on a heated seat that's on because the heating pad is buried in the seat.

oh, good idea... will do! Gonna tackle it this sunday - I will have heated seats!
Update - my passenger seat does have good heat, man is it nice - now i'm really motivated!
Also I can hear the relay on the drivers side click in, but it is less audible than the passenger side, i'll get out the multimeter and see if the amperage is the same on both sides before and after the relay, although they seem to be pretty burried up in the dash - anyone had em out?
