The reason Im asking is because im in the process of desiging a custom audio trunk enclosure w/ a friend who competes in USAC world finals and was won many awards.
ANYWAY- Im really liking the ide of removing the spare for room for an enclosed amp rack. My only worry is that then i wont have a spare. I've owned/driven the car 4 yrs and ive never used it. I also have 18" rims so i'd be afarid to use it with the rim size soo different.
Just wondering what you all thought about this....Is it worth it to keep the spare??
Do you all use yours? Have you ever used/needed yours??

well...i got a flat. that says it all. doesn't matter abot the rim size, ur only gonna need the spare to either get home, or a place in order to repair ur tire. It's temporary.

it designed for stock rims, if u have aftermarket rims, it won't fit.. i meant, it won't balance well.. i took mine out when i did the custom trunk encloser

of course it wont balance, but that doesn't matter, you're gonna need to drive the car from where ever you get the flat. I pretty sure you're not gonna tow the car because you have 18's and a regular spare are you

I too have considered removing the spare, but every car I've had except my trans am, I needed it at one point or another. The roads are so shitty around here, specially in winter, There are potholes gallore, some you can see and dodge, and others that will eat your wheel and rim, so i'd say out of 7 or 8 cars i've needed a spare on ever car except one

If you have AAA fuck it, take it out... you can get a tow anyway. But if you are a rugged minimalist who would never join a car maintenance club... You better keep your spare just in case. I have used the spare in all of my cars at least once... so yeah I will be keeping mine.

Yea, see i DO have AAA...so I can always get towed. (also, hopefully within the next 6 mo. I'll have enough $$ for new rims and tires. So, the wheels and tires i have now will be my winter pair, & if I go out of town or anything, i guess i could just put a wheel/tire in a bag and take it along as a 18" spare just in case??....you can only get towed from AAA within like 100miles)

AAA is garbage, atleast around here they are, one time they took 4 hours to come. One time I called them and they said a hour and half, an hour later I decided to call a friend. 3 hours after I got home and was sleeping, my cell rings, the driver says "I'm at the location where you said you were at" I said, oh, I'm in my bed.

As for the spare, never used it, never had a jack in my car, and when I mounted my amp I was in a hurry and ended up screwing into the spare.
