H.I.D. 101??
I'm researching HID conversion. I did the Search function but that confused me even more. I need basic HID schooling......
From looking at pictures of HID conversion kits, I see (two) one-piece wiring harnesses with a conversion box attached and two bulbs. I assume you connect each wiring harness accordingly and install the bulbs and put them back into the stock headlight housing.
But from the HID postings and threads, I've read about projectors? What are projectors?
I've also read about adjusting the beam. I sounds like the person replaced the headlight housing instead of using the factory housing and had to readjust the beam. Is it necessary to replace that or can you use the factory housing?

As far as most HID kits, they plug directly into your existing wiring (remove the stock 9006 bulb (low beam) from the harness and plug the HID kit into where the 9006 bulb used to be). Then mount the ballasts to sheet metal in the engine bay. It's very simple.
I'll let someone with projectors answer your question on them.
You DO NOT need to change you headlight housings. The HID bulbs will fit right into them. You may need to fine tune your beam angle, but that's easy to do. Your owners manual explains how to do this (just need a screwdriver).

projectors are a solid glass semi-circle that basically spread out the beam-pattern. so, you see more with the projector and an HID light combo.
you cant get projector conversions for the CL's, unless you custom fabricate one like VXCL.

Cool...I think I understand now.
I don't want to start another thread but I also have a question about CAI's. What is the difference between the ones you see on Ebay for like $50 vs. AEM that are $200? I know there are short ones that don't go down and out of the engine bay. But this one, on Ebay, looks like it goes down and out and it's like $70.

There's the short ram (which the filter stays inside of the engine bay) and the cold air intake (CAI--inwhich the filter goes down into the wheel well and sucks in cool air)
Most folks believe that the AEM models not only look better but perform better). I agree that the AEM model looks better, but hey; a tube is a tube. Just get a good K&N filter for your eBay "special".

When i upgrade in the summer, i am selling my weapon R and getting an injen short ram. True that the aem cold airs add a few more ponies, the throttle response along with noise of the shorty is something i couldn't live without. IMO, cheaper, easier install, better looking, safer on your engine and easier to clean your filter. Hey JMO though.
