LED's rock, I thought about doing this mod instead gauges, because I don't like the ricey white gauges in my all black interior, so instead I just got dark colored gauges for aftermarket replacement. If I get sick of those, then I'll defianately do this mod. Nice b4 and after pic btw

i think i had read a thread here before where they said that you needed to get a Q-tip and use some liquied to take the green tint off the gauges. cant remember exactly though.

are you serious?.. wow. can some one please find the thread?!?!

yea theres always going to be a green tint no matter what color you put in there... you just gotta think what color and green = the color your going to get..
i think if someone put purple bulbs in.. they gunna get a diff color.. but as for me... the difference was minimal.. just ALOT ALOT brighter... my lowest point at the dimmer is like how it use to be at middle point...

I've also done this mod with the white. It looks really nice as well, but fade/bleed is more apparent. If you want I guess I could put some pics of all white, all blue, and half-blue half-white for comparison....
Did you only do this in the guages cluster? I gonna guess you haven't done this to anyother lights in the car. How does a blue cluster go with all the other green lights on the car's panels and consoles?

and yes, a DIY would be awesome

haha nippon has the setup I did still!

You cannot do it in white because there is a slight green filter for the buttons. A deep blue displays because it overcomes the green or something.

I did that setup like 2 years ago and sold it to nippon

Oh, I get it now... So THAT's why special forces commandos cover their bodies in blue leds!

My eye has no problem focusing on the blue gauges.

True that. I have a hard time looking @ the blue gauges in our '02 1.8t Jetta, I guess cause I'm so used to the off white color of the 2nd gen CL.

It's so pretty though.

Isn't red supposed to be the best color for gauges? (least stress on the eyes)

Red is best when driving at night. Your eyes don't have to adjust as much to red as it does to all other colours, including white.

Red is the best color for preserving night vision since it has the longest wavelength. This is why military flashlights have red filters and why military helicopters that are used for night drops are lit red inside.

Having said that, blue gauges look awesome. At night, I tend to turn my dimmer all the way down, but I crank it back up during the day.

The bulb will glow yellowish-white like any normal incandescent bulb. However the gauges themselves have a greenish tint everywhere that's transparent. That's why even without the bulb covers the gauges will light up greenish.

A pure and intense blue or red LED will overpower the pale greenish tint. White LEDs look greenish unless you remove the tint.

Has anyone bothered to try to use Acetone to remove the greenish tint? I know ppl have talked about it in previous forums, but no one has really said.
