Got a paint quote what ya think?

I have a 97 cl, white, its got some places on it and I wanted to get em fixed. To do the bumpers, side door pieces, mirrors, hood it would run me 1500. To do the entire car it would cost 2500. Im debating on doing it in the spring. Hes a family friend and does very good work, been doing it for longer than ive been alive. Im just worried value would go down or that I wont keep the car and lose mucho dinero on it. Any advice? I'll try to get some pics up later tonight.

post pics, so we can evaluate your situation. As for keeping the car, are you unsure if you're gonna keep it or not? That's an important consideration.

that's a lot of money, i could probably get that quote from any body shop, for stock color. But like I said, it all depends on if you are keeping the car, you're only 16, so I'd say you probably want to keep the car for a while. But it all depends on what you think the future will hold.

yea...I cant believe Katana was able to pull off a free paintjob. Wish I could. I actually recently played NFS-2 and saw a color on there I love. Maybe by this time next year I'll be able to re-paint the entire car a custom color and be ready for HIN. Im leaning towards a dark midnight blue / black mix with added "Lexus grey" & silver flakes....

That color w/ 18" C5's (black with chrome lip) CF Hood, Lowered 2" and *hopefully* molded front and rear lips.... sexy sexy...

Who knows...we'll see. Ever since I went to HIN, I'll I can think about it modding my car to "show quality" and with the ultimate goal in mind....being featured in a Magazine.

As for the $2500....seems kinda steep. I could see that If they were re-doing the entire car. Although then again, I had $3,000 worth of hail damage and they removed all the dents and repainted for that much....I guess it depends on where you go...Just call around or stop by and get multiple quotes.

I got 2 quotes for my rear bumper with moderate scratches (from prior owner). Each quote was around $500.

I think about having it done every day BUT I'm sure someone will hit it after it's done then it would have been a waste of money. But if someone hit it now I could get it done for free!

WTF?

$2500 could be cheap if he does a relly good job. You get what you pay for. I've seen same color jobs for ~$7000 (mind you award winning paint jobs)

$500 for painting a hood!? That's nuts, I hope you didn't pay it. If you're gonna pay that much, get a carbon fiber hood for $460

Uhh yea...exactly the same situation i was in. Acura wanted $600 for a new hood and then another $500 to paint...I was quoted about $1200 for a new hood. Thats why I waited a year and im glad cuz now I had time to save up and now im getting the CF hood. (perfect timing! )

Yea...well it all depends on what you want.

$3000 - Paintjob
~$3000 - Engine, install swap labor
$3000 - Save for forced induction

You could learn to paint yourself.. find a DIY garage type place. I ended up painting my rear bumper for $150-$200 Canadian. I think it was $50 for just a half-pint of basecoat and the clear was $32 a quart. It was $55 an hour to rent the booth. The paint was not an exact match but very close. The bodyshops have access to an on-site colour system that I don't however. Anything you do yourself, make sure you fill all the scratches in with a putty and then use a thick primer.

I posted a "paint" question thread in the Car Talk forum:
https://acurazine.com/forums/car-talk-5/paint-job-front-bumer-313921/

I guess I'm having similar problems. But I'm getting quoted way more for a freaking FRONT BUMPER. I feel like purchasing a newer car, just so that I can have a cleaner looking car, better ride, better interior, if I'm goin to be puttin $500 for a bumper paint!

damn, if you know where to take it to get it cheaper in lexington KY let me know. Macco ive heard is crap where im at. Lima I hear that, I really want to do a 240/rb25 build up but its $$$ and I dont know if I have the funds to do what I want. And i cant decide on what I would replace my cl with, way too many cars/items that I want to buy.

Ive thought about learning to paint myself but Im not screwing up the paint on my car. Its not that bad, but im a car guy and im really self concious about the blems on the car, I can name em all.

I'll try to get pics up of the car and the "areas"

I have the 'funds' but that doesn't mean i should give it away for PAINT! sure, my car looks like crap. but i'd rather use the money for world travel

and if I am going to be spending $500 just to paint my freakin bumper, i might as well sell this car, and upgrade to a new CL Type-S that has better/glossy paint & much better engine and interior. I might just have to take a $5 loan though.

bah, nevermind all this. if I can't get it done for sub $250, i'm going to leave it the way it is, or paint it myself. I am going to upgrade the stock audio, since I plan on driving this car till i'm out of college. i've had this car for over 2 years now. i'm overdue for a car audio upgrade. i can't stand the stock system. damn, i shouldn't have gotten into the minor accident. rant rant rant

uh oh better get maaco. dude a presidential paint with clearcoat whole car is only like 550 bucks. a body shop will charge you more bc instead of just masking off everything, they take the bumpers hood headlights etc. off to paint(or avoid painting) them. for a color change 3000 sounds about right but for the same color shouldnt be no where near that high. thats fuckin rediculous.
