Gas needle jumps
When I have a lil under quarter tank.... The car occasionally cranks before it starts as if it were on Empty. When I drive the gas needle swings up to the quarter mark and back down to a little over the E mark. Is this normal with 97's?
Is it the fuel pump? Service said it was normal but when he tried to demonstrate with several other cars, it didnt happen. Also, one car was on empty RED and didnt even crank. My warranty is almost up and I don't want to get screwed later. Any info on this?

Sounds like an irratic Fuel tank sender unit that measures the fuel in tank, it is a pretty common occurrence as your mechanic said. If it is faulty, I'd imagine it would cost 250-300 dollars to replace, so if you can convince the dealership that your problem is more than irratic and get it warrantied, I would do so.
