Gas mileage^2
So none of you probably care but just so someone like me who searches that has the same problem with gas mileage may see this.
In the city I get ~20-21 average (which is 100% city basically maybe some 10 minute freeway trips occasionally)
I took my trip to lake chelan this week which is about 350 miles from here. I drove to Goldbar--just before the pass--which is about 50 miles away.
I filled up there and got around 20.3 mpg (mainly city). Anyway so on the new tank (that I'm still on) I've got 350 on the tach with the gas guage showing just above 1/4 of a tank. When it hits empty it means I have about 4 gallons left. That translates to roughly 35~40 mpg (give or take). So my car is fine after all, the 2.3's just get shitty city mileage. It satisfies me to know that my car isn't messed up, I put a lot of money into tuning it up.

my car is screwed then, cuz i drive a total of 40 miles a day on the turnpike/palmetto and 2 miles getting on/off highway (home and fiu), 42 miles total which means about 95% highway. the highest i ever got was 21 mpg. i have to run the tank almost completely empty to get the thingy to reach 300 miles...

My 3.0 is getting around 22 city and 28 highway. But most of my driving is in town. It kills my milage because I only drive 3 miles to work and it is all with 25 to 35 mph speed limits. So I hardly ever get to spool up. I can't wait untill next Wednesday... I'm heading to the river... I love it... camping, tending a fire all night, kiaking... can't beat it.

My 3.0 averages about 300 per tank. 50/50 on city/highway. Not too bad even though gas is a bit pricy.
What does everyone run? I seem to get the best results using plus

I've always had good gas mileage. With the A/C on and all city driving I get 330 miles @ 3/4 tank and I‘m never in 5th gear. I can easily get 400+ miles per tank. I recently gaped my spark plugs to specs (which I never did when I bought them 9 months ago) and my mileage has improved noticeably.

I'm too cheap to even try it, that stuff is expensive! Although, gas prices are coming down around here. $3.11/gallon for 87

Yeah, when the light comes on I still have like 4 gal to go too. Thats a HELL of a buffer
Glad to hear your car is fine, and its just your city driving causing that ridiculous mpg. Really, try 3rd gear...its OK!

I may have the record. I loaded up with fuel, and then immedietley took my car onto the freeway, and didn't stop, from Philadelphia to Akron, Ohio. I set the cruise control at 70mph once I got to 5th gear, and basically didn't touch it for 6-7 hours. Total - 525 miles on one tank!! That's about 34.5 miles per gallon, since it took 15.4 gallons to refill it.
Beat that!

I got 32.4 mpg if you consider the 13% city driving I did, 34.9 without.

i always refill my car when the gas guage hits the "E" line. Does it come on after that?

I drive about 80% city and 20% highway, and only get 220 miles per tank >_<. It seems to get WAY better economy and performance when I use midgrade, I didnt think it would make a big difference but its pretty noticeable (compared to regular). I have a 5 speed btw.
EDIT: I read above that there's a 4 gallon buffer when the light comes on? I usually fill up when I have an 8th of a tank and it takes about 9.5 gallons, so I must still have a LOT of gas left. I guess that explains the poor range I was seeing...
BTW whats the best RPM to have it turning at? I usually put it in 5th gear even when I'm on city streets (40mph), and downshift to pass someone or get up a hill. Should I be keeping it above 2k when its just cruising with no need to accelerate? And whats Seafoam? Is it just a fuel additive? Sorry if I sound like a newb, I'm new to the CL (and 4cyl cars for that matter) I used to own and be heavily into and working on first gen Datsun Z cars.
Sorry for the necropost

There are a ton of hills around here so I'm almost always at 2500rpms+
#39
at night when there are no cars around, and i accelerate from a stop light...i usually try to control my foot so the car shifts below 2000rpms. i have a 2.2 auto. the best i got was 320miles per tank.
oh yeah, so when the light comes on, we have approx 50 miles to go?
