funny noises

My car has been making the most awful scratching noise, and its coming from the back passanger side wheel. I opened it up, and the wheel disc is completely clean, there arent any scrathes. the noise comes whenever im backing up, driving forward and turning, but the wierd thing is when i drive back to my parents house, its a 1 1/2 hour 90mph drive on the freeway, and when i get home, the noise is gone, i can drive in all directions and nothing....any ideas on what could be causing this?

Could it possibly be the brakes? The pads might need a change because we have a brake alarm system where it starts to make noises so that you will take it in to get checked up. ?

Either it's a rock stuck between the calipers and the disc or it's a wheel bearing about to seize. If it's a rock, you can usually get it out by driving backwards for a bit with the brakes applied. If not, open up the caliper & inspect the pads.

If it's a wheel bearing... well, I'd get it to a dealer pronto before the wheel seizes.

Does the noise only happen when you're using the brakes? If not, then it's either a rock on your pads or a bad wheel bearing.
