Ethanol in a CL

I was wondering if its ok to use fuel with added ethonol. It is less expensive, and supports alternatives to oil, so i would like to use it.

Also what kind of fuel addidtive works best? Thanks.

Generally I would say NO! GM's new cars have exclusive guarantees to run ethanol. Its really not that much of a $$ savings over gas, and the current ROI of energy from corn isn't positive (ie. takes more energy to make than it can produce). Your fuel lines, seals, and hoses would likely need replaced with a better substance to resist being eaten through.

SO to recap:
-Costs money to upgrade fuel system
-More environmentally taxing to produce ethanol
-Cash savings very little, and negated by above costs

Why bother? Hell if you believe that hype why not start doping your tank with Acetone.

The lovely folks at Acura engineered this vehicle over 7 years ago with the specific intention of it running gasoline. I get 30mpg regularly and up to 36mpg gentle highway miles. Most additives are garbage (aside from injection cleaner, dry gas, you know...things with purpose).

Be nice to your baby, don't feed it shit.

Yeah, go get you some "switch grass" and make some fuel out of it like that dork Bush said. What a fucking joke... Naw man, stay away from the ethanol.

Actually switch grass is a damned good idea. Its positive ROI, and one of the few organically derived sources in known science. We'll see if you feel the same in 5 years when govt mandated fields are growing in your back yard, Capt. Oklahoma.

But seriously....don't put it in your fucking Acura!

IS that the same as ethyl tetra lead? the same shit that GM made a standard to supposedly fix "engine knock," while the real reason was because it was cheap as shit, and was banned because it was killing people, making people go crazy and seriously fucking up the environment? The same reason that gas stations advertise non-leaded gasoline?

Dont tell me that shits back, and what a surprise, GM

Thanks for the help. I didn't think it was a great idea. The stuff is 10 cents cheaper here (IA) so I thought I would check. I belive its a 80/20 mix of ethanol and gas so it could be pretty bad, but its common for a fuel company to add around 10% to thier gas.

Oh and switchgrass, thats a load of crap. At least for now. It will be at least 10-15 years before thats a common resource. Hemp is even better but I think its frowned upon by ole dubya.
