EGR Port Clog -
I just had a third new tranny put in my 98 cl 3.0 with 92,000 mile under warranty(second one failed 150 miles).
Upon picking up the car the through a code for the egr valve to be replaced ( they would not cover under warranty). I replaced the EGR valve and cleaned the port port myself..no big deal. Ran the car about 75 miles and the code came up again for egr. I pulled egr valve and cleaned port and carbon was still comming out. Replaced valve ran it ....and again, code came up. What the hell am I doing that is not getting all the carbon out of the port? Is there a technique or a way to do this?

u have to remove the intake manifold. and clean the port that goes from the plenum to the egr plate. baybee bout 6" deep. i tried just to clean it and it didnt work but when i removed it u could see why it still throws the code. its not too hard. i have an acura service manual but i am currently deployed to turkey, and i dont have access to it.

Thanks for the tips. However, I did exactly as you stated about cleaning the port that goes from the plenum to the egr plate. Still throws up the code. I just found out that Acura now has a bypass/remedy kit for 95.00 that repipes the problem adn reduces future plug ups. Thanks for your help.

were you using a new valve? when i bought the valve (they called it the egr valve "kit"). it came w/ the valve, gasket and a lil pipe. the pipe is for after you drilled out the deposit in the manifold, you supposed to put the pipe in there. so maybe the pipe prevents carbon build ups.

Fu*#@)%(#*%)#@%ck!!!
WORD. Mine popped the code again after I cleaned it out two days ago. Yesterday I'm driving it and "BAMM". She bit me again! I reckon I'm gonna take it off and hose her out with some brake cleaner.
TRACOS.... Please let me know what you find out. I don't usually drive the CL. But my Civic has a headlamp out. Waiting for PIAA to ship me a replacement.
-Thanks Dogg.

True dat. True dat.
That's exactly what dude at the dealership said. The repipe kit with new EGR valve is under $100 bucks. It's under warranty though up to 80,000 miles. I'm gonna get 'er done after Christmas I reckon. Until then I'm not gonna drive the CL. That check engine light drives me nuts!
