down pipe question

My friend is getting a R33 engine in his 300 Z installed. that was off topic, but he told me that if i just replace my piping in the exhaust system, that will give me some gains. Anyone know if this is true or not? I dont have a exhaust and I dont intend on getting one. I like the sleeper look.

Of course you'll see gains by widening the diameter of the piping. More air flow and less restrictions. Careful though, if you do more than 3" you'll lose power because there won't be any back pressure. I have my exaust staggered.
