In dire need of help!
Have a 2.3 cl 1998 with 5 speed tranny. Have been noticeing a "grinding" noise coming from underneath vehicle, not so much in engine compartment. No, it is not my clutch wearing out. It happens a little when you start and idle the vehicle. Then especially loud when letting clutch out and revving up to about 2.5-3 rpm's in 1st gear, then a little going into second. After that at higher speeds, nothing, all is well and good. A very slight performance dip is noted when this happens, but after that, everything is fine, and car appears to run good. I can still notice v-tech kicking in. This has been happening for about 2 months, stopped for one day, then the engine light came on (finally). I drive the car very little, about 30-70 miles a week. Can anyone help. Would be much appreciated. Maybe someone can tell me how to pull up the engine code myself. Already obtained the list of what the codes mean, but no means to retrieve them. Help!

When sitting in neutral does it make your car sound like it has a diesel engine? I had a del Sol with a problem that sounds similar to this, and it turned out to be worn transmission bearings. It would sound normal as long as I had the clutch pedal depressed, ie. the tranny being disconnected from the engine.

i had mine done at a Honda dealership, it was pretty expensive, i think around $1000...but I also had new CV boots done as well. replacing anything inside the tranny is not cheap.

i dont think a throwout bearing would make a grinding noise...if anything it would be a squealing noise when the clutch pedal is released. if the engine codes dont tell you anything, definitely get it checked out
