clear coat repair

when washing my car, i noticed a small area, about the size of a quarter where the clear coat started flaking off. what should i get to 1) repair it and 2) keep it from spreading?

1. its not really repairable. You have to go to a body shop and repaint that spot or maybe just re-clear.

2. wax your car!

any idea on how much it'd cost to get it fixed? i'll already have my car in the bodyshop in a few weeks to get some bumper damage repaired (insurance is footing the bill). it'll still be easier though if the car is already there.

and i don't think my car has ever gone more than 6 months without being waxed...oh well...

Where is the spot? Your going to have to have it repainted to do it right. Waxing a car will have no good effect on improper surface prep from previous paint repairs. THough, wax will help the pigment from fading and add some shine.

Sand off all the clear then reapply colour and clearcoat. I was quoted $600 to do just the bumper but ended up doing it myself. I had more than a quarter size clear peeling off before. The bumper looked so weird before that I wondered if the previous owner had lied about it being in an accident.
