I thought there was a thread in the forum that gave good instructions on how to take the case off my remote and clean it. I can't get the remote to work even with a new battery. It's the original that came with my 97Acura. I can't buy an aftermarket remote in Canada. If anyone has successfull cleaned their remote if you would let me know how and what you did. Thanks

Pry it open on the bottom just like you would to replace the battery and then push the buttons in. They and the circuit board should pop out of the case. Then just start wiping the rubber.

This is, of course, the remote for my trunk, doors, security.
Artbran, any suggestion on the best cleaning fluid or wipes to use?
BlackAck, thanks for the suggestion. I did replace the battery but it's still not working. Cleaning the terminals is what I have in mind. It wasn't working when I got the car and it looks pretty grimy around the button edges.

I actually just grabbed a sponge and went to work on it.
When it comes to the rubber, anything will work as long as it isnt abrasive and will melt the rubber. I would go ahead and try something like windex. Spray it on and let it soak into the caked on dirt and then try to scrub the rest off.

Shipping to Canada can be really pricey. I always check the cost of anything before buying/bidding. Courier service is horribly expensive and has prevented me from buying quite a few things on ebay. The best deal is USPS when it comes to shipping. It takes a while longer but is considerably cheaper. Another advantage of the postal service is things that cost over $20 means Canadians pay duty and it can be a lot but when it comes by mail it often sails past the beady eyes of customs. I'm waiting now to see what the cost of shipping a new remote is going to be from an online store in the US.
